Wonderful stuff.

Puts me in mind of the 1946 Swedish film 100 dragspel och en flicka (100 accordions and a girl) about the two inventors Ville and Roll ( Elof Ahrle and Bengt Logardt ) who develop a new kind of accordion, with predictably comic results.

Reminds me of the Clockwork Orange film ,  but then that piece was used in the film played on a Moog by Walter Carlos ..

As for keys laid out for Harmony, CBAs are pretty good for that already - it`s not a futuristic accordion because it`s not an accordion - maybe a future type of controller, you could do it with two iPads

What do you think about this?

He never really shows that the controller can do anything other than long sustained notes - I don't think it would work for fast music. Or perhaps the limitation of the controller would just make fast notes all staccato -

What do you think about this?

I can only wonder why it is considered to be an accordion - isn't it just a midi controller with two uniform keyboards?

I can't even detect anything to simulate the dynamics available through changing bellows pressure. The shape of the box, and placement of the two keyboards is novel though, and the player seems to be enjoying himself.

I think it's just because it's played on your chest. It looked pretty fun to me!

There is another video where he has it on a piano patch. Jolly and punchy. Fascinating keyboard - perhaps based on a CBA.
What do I know about CBA layouts? - Not a lot.

I guess this will be based on the Janko keyboard.

The Girl is in another clip (below) as for the other 99, they were attending the PA equivalent of Whitney that weekend  ::)

Ladies prefer CBA players (from the same movie)

*necro-post alert*

...wow, strange to see that early prototype. I've been spending a bit of time with the Dualo Du-touch S recently; it's a perfect commuter instrument. Here's a quick demo of "Fairy Dance" which I've been practising on the bus to work.

https://youtu.be/erNCCe6dBTg

It's not exactly a melodeon, but some of the basic principles have been useful in working out how to play it. "Jules Hotrique" in the video at the top of the thread was a mathematician, and the underlying mathematical design of the layout is pretty clever.

(Excuse the unglamorous fingernails; I recently trapped my hand in the bathroom door. Ow.)

I think that the “heart” of an accordion, or melodeon is its bellows, so this is something else.

Call it an electronic CBA,  piano accordion, Bayan, Bandonèon whatever. There are 1000 ways to arrange musical notes 9n a keyboard, some more logical, or successful than others. But in its soul our instrument is about bellow control to put the dynamics into music.  That doesn’t seem to have been a design feature here? 🤔

Impressive!   Alternation of the scale between left and right hands....like an English concertina.
Looks like one hand has e.g.  CEGB...   and other hand has DFAC...
There's a video in french where inventor explains it all. So great for people to be able learn these transposable pattern instruments instead of struggling with the ancient piano keyboard and all its different scale patterns.

But we can have that on a CBA and bellows?

Sorry, am I missing something? It looked electronic on the video🙂

I just came across the Striso. The flat version will be launched on Kickstarter soon, though I like the look of the early box prototypes. I posted it in this thread because it reminds me of a boutique wooden Dualo, and I didn't think the moderators would want too many posts on non-melodeon gadgets.  ;) No, it doesn't have bellows. But I thought I might get away with mentioning it because this pic also has a melodeon in it!

The Striso campaign has been running on Kickstarter this month. So far it's reached £19K of its £22K target with a week to go, and a few more details have emerged about alternative tunings and built in sounds.

I hope this project gets there - I'm a sucker for gadgets like this and I'd like to pick one up at some point... (:)

I hope this post isn't inappropriate. But I didn't originally start this thread, so... ;)

One of my favourite melodeon videos on YouTube is Andy Cutting playing "The Origin of the World" solo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78Nex0PCjPc

I've recently been practising this on my Dualo, and just made a lockdown video with a couple of friends.
