You've inspired me to learn some "holiday" tunes on the melodeon.

If we're getting festive, then I find that Deck the Halls works nicely on the D row (one note on the G row, the way I play it anyway) and is the carol I shall play if someone asks for me to play something at Christmas this year.  In Dulci Jubilo is fun to play also.  Never attempted Rudolf.  When the promised ABC appears I might give it a go.

I transcribed this from an arrangement I downloaded (some time last century) from polishfireball.com - the chemnitzer concertina site. It may need reworking to get it to fit on the melodeon, but the bare bones are there.

Ah, that tunebook looks useful!  Away in a Manger.  I've been singing that one chorally for nigh on 40 years now.  So much so that sometimes I have to fight not to sing the alto part; although I go carolling at the hospital every year so it's quite handy for that.  We're just starting rehearsals again.

I might see if I can be very clever and try and work out how to play the melody and the alto part for it on melodeon at the same time.  My Christmas project.  The part I sing does go "into the boots" as my old teacher used to say, so at least I have low notes.  :D

Someone should try to do one of those multitrack youtube videos where it looks like a set of twins are playing a melodeon duet

We could give it a go.  I was going to try and work out if I can arrange it for one melodeon anyway.  I can have a go at learning just the alto part, seeing as I know it very well to sing.  If you learn the melody we can try and do a duet.  :)

I think I'd have to do the alto part anyway as I have low notes and I don't think you do?

/edit.  Bah, I have the "in the boots" A but not a low C natural.  Could fudge it with the basses I suppose.

Just make sure you know its provenance and didn't buy it from a bloke in a pub before you sell on eBay
