Poll: Tune of the Month for December 2012
« on: November 24, 2012, 12:04:59 AM »

Here we go again folks - four more tunes to choose from!

Walter Bulwer's No.2 - Narrowly missing election again last month, here's another session classic, played here by the redoubtable Ed Rennie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E65vHX-5xcU

Sportsmans Hornpipe - Yep, good suggestion LdT - can't believe we haven't done this one yet. Here it is played on a Pokerwork - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1imMdkrfN4Q - the tune's normally in A minor which can make it a little more tricky to arrange if you can't take 3rds out of your basses on a D/G, but it's certainly playable.

Spirit of the Dance - Right folks, I'm going to try again and persuade you to play this tune. It's a cracker; one of the best in my opinion, and I can never figure out why it doesn't win by a landslide! Here we go again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJfOIwDMCFM

The Official Branle - Yes, folks, it's Christmas. And this 14th Century French tune has a somewhat Christmassy connection,  so there's no getting away from it. If you don't vote this in, I'm just going to have run the Christmas theme *again*. You have been warned. Here's Lester playing it, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZVSD_ijtP8 - the first tune in the set.

Happy voting!

Had to vote for "Spirit Of The Dance" , it's a great tune. Here's one of my favourite U-tube videos to prove it :|||:

The Sportsman's Hornpipe is tune #72 in the book 'Nick Barber's English Choice' for those of you that have it.

I quite liked Bill Johnston's rendering of the Furness Waltz.

<fx: pulls soap box out and coughs into megaphone>

Come on people... vote for Spirit of the Dance... I don't want to play yet *another* hornpipe... and The Sportsmans Hornpipe is quite a bit harder to play I reckon...

So come on... vote for Spirit of the Dance..
I thank you..

Hornpipes are like melodeons... you can never have too many of 'em  ;) :||:

Vote for The Sportsman's Hornpipe, you know it makes sense.

Actually I think you are right... and having just played the Sportsmans, it is pretty good, I have to admit...

I switched my vote to Sportsman's Hornpipe after watching this rather nice version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVSFnLUNveA.  The thing I liked about it was that it was really clear to see the bass timing (provided you wish to play it John Spiers style!).  Scary looking box though...

Well said. There are times when I'm quite concerned about my hornpipe obsession.  :|glug  8)

Doesn't make it much more playable that the A Dor (which has basses challenges) as it has low Bs which people may not have
