I don't know if this counts really, as it's not a Christmas song, and I'm not a Christian.  However I do think the sheer humanity of this piece of music merits its place in any season of goodwill, as a tribute to Norwegians, so here's my (very) humble copy.

Yours truly with Crook Morris, performing a Christmas Morris dance at a ceilidh last Saturday. I may not be immediately obvious, but my melodeon and I are with the musicians who are hidden behind the dancers (for our own safety!)  >:E

Enjoy (or not!)  ::)

My 'festive' song which I posted some time ago and wrote even longer ago. It ends with the tune 'Hunsup Through the Wood'.  Coincidentally it was also performed at the Crook Morris Ceilidh (by Tumbling Tom - the ceilidh band I'm in) featured in Bob's vid.

Edited 6/12/12 to show correct YouTube link. :|bl

I have heard the young girl play this and it is beautiful; as is your version here Chris. It is so sad and has sent shivers down my spine as it did when you played it a High Barn.

I take my hat off to you for this beautifully played piece of music.

Cracking song, excellent playing!  ;D

*note to self* you can play and sing with concertina and guitar, must try harder with melodeon!

*reply to self* tried it. Passed out due to breathing with bellows direction, bummer.  :|glug

Thank you for that Pete. I usually sing with guitar too. I can just manage two songs at the moment whilst playing melodeon at the same time - this one and The Wild Boar (as sung by Jon Loomis, I believe) which I keep meaning to put up on YouTube. I can pretty much only sing along if I'm playing the same tune as I'm singing - I can't do it to a harmony or to sparse accompaniments.

This isn't something I am usually good at but I have a song book of harmony parts arranged by Craig, Morgan, Robson (we attended a workshop with these talented singers and arrangers - it was simply awesome!) There is a lovely song called 'When the Snows of Winter Fall' and I can manage to sing the melody whilst playing the second (harmony) line on English concertina. The other way around would be impossible for me I simply 'must' sing the melody, I can learn the second part and sing it well enough until I hear the melody, then I'm off and following the main theme!

I liked The Official Bransle (candidate for Tune of the Month) so much I decided to play it anyway for this section instead.

http://youtu.be/R2UUK2oI-2Q - Official Bransle, with well known seasonal association.
