A Very English Winter: The Unthanks.

Watched a very interesting programme tonight on BBC4 about English winter customs and dance traditions with quite a bit of footage of melodeon players. Its showing on BBC I Player.

Hey - I'm on the telly!  8)

Seriously - an excellent programme, well worth watching on the iPlayer thing if you didn't see it first time round.

I saw only the Ramsey Straw Bear...

I was watching it on iplayer ... with the constant annoyance of the pop up box asking to store data so I may have missed THE Straw Bear ( ;D) ...
(I did see the fellah who was responsible for the revival of the  Whittlesey Bear... and him a Geordie too ;))

I didn't spot Steve either... probably cos of those damned data boxes too  ;D

What data boxes?  Is it your policy towards cookies that is causing that?  You cannot do very much really WITHOUT cookies, you can set systems to delete them later on, rather than refuse them in flight.

Hmmm, not really true. I reject the vast majority of cookies and only let through the favoured few.

I'm downloading the programme now using the wonderful get_iplayer, so no cookies and stuff there either  (:)

I spotted a lot of friends some from the 60s and 70s archival stuff as well as recent clips.  Good bits from Sheffield Carols and Sword dance teams,

Elf n safety issues eh? Lewes, Allendale, Haxey Hood where I got hammered once long ago, never again!
