squeeky Mory bass buttons
« on: December 21, 2012, 05:45:46 PM »

My 9 month old Castagnari Mory whilst otherwise superb has annoying squeeks from the bass buttons when released, not a problem in a session but lethal when I record it. Any suggestions to remedy appreciated?

Not sure what you call them but I had similar hard to kill squeek in a Lilly.  It was the spring rubbing against the rod attached to the button.  Pried it just a hair away and was cured.

Was not able to lubricate it away (best attempt was powdered graphite).

You need to investigate the source if the noise.  It could be:
As suggested above, or two push rods making contact with each other or with the bass cover plate, or at a pushrod/lever joint, or at o lever pivot, might be two pallets rubbing, might also be the piston that the button sits on rubbing where it passes through the case.  I've also seen a bass end squeak on a Mory where the LH strap rubs against the cover plate at the adjuster end.

The cure will depend on the cause.

If still under warranty take it back to the retailer.

And do not in any case spray anything with WD40!  :-[

Nor apply any oil, grease or anything else that dust would stick to.
