Tiny seven button box
« on: December 28, 2012, 09:42:34 PM »

I have a Chinese 7 button toy melodeon with Hohner reeds fitted by Microbot; it's great fun and totally transportable and jolly loud :|bl Is there a 'proper' box of the same size on the market ?

Quite a few Italian makers offer a mini organetto, Dino Baffetti and Serenellini make them, I think Giustozzi as well...

The Swiss have quite a lot of minioergeli. I have one that I bought in Interlaken some years ago. It is a lovely little box, but in the somewhat non session friendly key of F sharp - I don't know if that is normal or common, or what keys they normally come in.
This guy seems a bit useful on one.

Lester Andrew and Martin, thanks for putting me on the right track, now all I have to do is find one in G,D or C. Wont be a Mignon as the button layout seems weird.. whats the advantage?

Well mine is a bit odd as it was made for me, all the other ones I have met finger in the second octave. The buttons are:

D/F#
G/A
       D/E
B/c
       d/c#
d/e
g/f#
a/b

Interesting layout Lester. I have a Dino in the "standard" top-end-of the C scale layout, with four reversals.  Nice, but a bit shrill.  What's the thinking on the repeats of the push D and then the push d/e on the main row and on the adjacent button on the half row?

The two extra buttons are the ones that would appear on the D row of a standard D/G, well at least they are now I've corrected the typo  :|bl

Ahhh... and there was I, trying to imagine complex bits of ornamentation and dazzlingly intricate finger-work.

With the layout as revised I can now imagine even more complex bits of ornamentation and yet faster dazzlingly intricate finger-work.

Good stuff!
