A hopeful, happy New Year
« on: December 31, 2012, 07:28:25 PM »

Playing English polkas on an 80-year-old accordion makes my one-year-old daughter dance, dance, dance!

I've written about it on my blog.

Happy New Year, everyone.  (:) :||: :||: :||:

My other melodeon's a fiddle, but one of my Hohners has six strings! I also play a very red Hawkins Bazaar in C and a generic Klingenthaler spoon bass in F.!! My other pets (played) are gobirons - Hohner Marine Band in C, Hohner Tremolo in D and a Chinese Thingy Tremolo in G.

Utterly delightful Christopher! We all get lost in our own cares from time to time, your daughter has reminded us about the things that really matter. Happy New Year to you and yours and of course to our fellow melodeon.net contributors wherever they may be :)

Thanks Chris

You said it.

We just celebrated an "early midnight" with our own little ones . . .  and are grateful for happy hopeful spirits in a cold & snowy midwinter.

Happy New Year to all,

PG

Thanks Chris.  The melodeon had similar effects on my lad 20 years ago.  I France, the infant Fred hoiked out two tent pegs, and capered round clacking them above his head!  I still cannot imagine what gave him the idea  ;)

Enjoy 2013, and your daughter of course.  They ain't yours for very long!   :|glug

Happy New Year from the Ryburn 3step New Year's gig.  :||:

Thanks for coming and also to the other 178 dancers. Great night, and in fact our 20th such New Year ceilidh - how the years slide by! We sold out of tickets much earlier than usual this year and it broke my heart to have to turn another 25 people away. And we never charged a penny for introducing Mary and Anahata to each other.....

Happy 2013 to all from me and the rest of Ryburn 3-Step.

My old neighbours - a retired couple who married as soon as they left school and now sadly both gone - often had their grandaughters to stay.  In summer, they would dance round the garden when I played polkas (terraced house) calling out to me to step out into the garden so they could hear better.  Lovely days and I'll probably never see them again but one of the girls sang beautifully at Grandad's funeral.  My neighbours were delighted that I played the box, as the wife had played PA until her arthritis stopped her, and felt the kids would never have had the experience of live music at home otherwise.

Life changes when kids come along and the best wish for anyone is that they'll be able to enjoy such delights again when the grandchildren arrive.
