In previous years, I have travelled over to Whitby for the day two or three times during the week. Now that I have a motorhome, I am thinking of bringing it over for most of the week. I had thought to book onto the Moor and Coast camp site, but when I went onto their website I noticed that they have a 'no dogs' policy.  >:(

Can anyone tell me whether there is a site onto which I might be able to book my motorhome at this late stage that allows dogs and is within walking distance of the centre of Whitby?

There is one on the Hawkser road from Whitby Abbey. Walkable, just.

Chap from Manchester had his parked in the crescent on t'cliff top a few years ago.  Nothing happened, though you might get moved on. Guess practicality depends on the facilities of your rover, and for Rover for that matter!

Thanks very much for the suggestions here and in PMs. I will follow them up tomorrow since I will be out all day today playing with Les Panards Dansants.

Thanks again for the suggestions, folks. I've managed to book my motor home into Whitby Holiday Park. It looks like a long walk back from the centre of town at the end of an evening session and a steep climb up past the abbey, but it will keep me fit!

We've traditionally done Thursday afternoon in the Elsinore.

I suggest we wait until the programme is announced, and then see what's best!

Duke of York in the evenings is usually a good mixed session

Cheers

I have just received the print out of my activities for Whitby week.  DUe to programming requirements I  will NOT be doing an intermediate workshop (playing in A etc) on the Sunday.

Also the printed programme will show me as leading a session on the Thursday - somebody else will be doing this as I have to depart after Thursday morning workshop to get to my sons wedding the day after at the other end of the country!  ( he could have chosen a better day to get wed!)

I WILL be doing Dg beginners linked workshops mon,,tu,wed, thurs 10.00 to  11.20 am and music sessions ( any instrument) tues and wed   from 1.00 to 3.00pm  all in the Middle Earth

Just received details of the Whitby spots for Phoenix, one of whose members is Rod Stradling, arguably the godfather of English melodeon playing. (I'll be on mouthorgan.) Here are the details:

Monday 1pm - session in Conservative Club bar
Monday 8pm - concert spot at Football Club (apparently early in running order)
Tuesday 3pm - concert spot at Rifle Club (probably last in running order)
Tuesday 8pm - concert spot at Coliseum (probably last in running order)
Wednesday 1pm - session at Fishermen's Rowing Club
Wednesday 8pm - concert spot at Rifle Club (probably early in running order)

Cheers

Glad you asked this George, I was going to ask exactly the same thing today.    Last year's pre-festival Friday night session in the Dolphin was good fun, it would be excellent if something like this happened again.

Thanks George, I'd not thought of the Station, you've given me somewhere to look if I don't hear about anything else.

T'Station would be good for me too - we've had to take a Friday-Friday booking on our flat.

My other melodeon's a fiddle, but one of my Hohners has six strings! I also play a very red Hawkins Bazaar in C and a generic Klingenthaler spoon bass in F.!! My other pets (played) are gobirons - Hohner Marine Band in C, Hohner Tremolo in D and a Chinese Thingy Tremolo in G.

last year on the Friday I finished up in the station inn because  arriving in the evening the dolphin  was full of buggers playing melodeons!
Will probably have to do the same this year!
