"serial" summer courses in Alps foothills this summer
« on: February 14, 2013, 01:29:33 PM »

I've not noticed this one  before! It's a series of stages (courses) over 4 weeks

15-22 July: Italian week - accordeon, tambourine, song, dance and Calabrian
cooking!  convenient for Ch.d'Ars, clashes with Grand Bal
                  http://lapaixdemenage.fr/lapaixdemenage/Italie.html
22-28 July: Accordeon all levels - 3-4 tutors
                 http://lapaixdemenage.fr/lapaixdemenage/diato.html
28 Jul-3 Aug: Masterclass in CBA Accordeon and clarinet(s).  JP Sarzier is
renowned in N Italy/Spain/S France both as teacher and player
of bass clarinet. Especially his "walking bass"

11-17 Aug  Accordeon again, and a course in song impro - this'll be simpler stuff

Says "Drôme" which is East and uphill from TGV access at Orange/Loriol/Valance. Ot you might drop down by car via the Vercors from Grenoble? It'll be in some tiny dot half way up some mountain, and you basically "relax in" for the duration. It said somewhere not to trust your SatNav for the last bit  ;)  There will be impromptu music in the evenings, and dancing.

Stéphane's accordeon week will be €600 "full board"  with discounts for students, campers etc.  Other halves can be accommodated, but basically it's dorms. It'll be in French, including "DoRéMi" and best on a 2+ row G/C. Entry  level: "competent"

Chavannée Fête Embraud  (at le Veudre) "should" mainly happen on Sat 27 July this year, and is 5-6 hours North via Macon/Valence - so doable en route. There's a really lovely lunch stop at Marsanne if you like that sort of thing.  :P

Didn't spot the Italian and I'm surprised. But the languages mix a bit, as at all border regions. The Grenoble clique do a lot of work in N Italy, and the val d'Aosta people pop the other way. But that cookery course is Calabrian!

First trip I made was 2004 and I got a lot from that with just 'O' level.  But playing a C/F, translating doremi and learning up French music notation and terms was a strain.

Do some homework in advance, practice some scales Dm Gm certainly, possibly Cm. See it as a holiday in a lovely place with opportunity to improve both technique and French (we had an ethnic Japanese one year at Heim's place, all made allowances and it worked.

It's much easier with a G/C with a few accs. But people have aven got around that.  :|glug

See what you mean, total immersion!

The Morvan folkies did a similar weekend stage in 1997. Morvan bagpipes, Morvan Bourree, Morvan truit! My wife came back full of how good it had been.

She did it all in the weekend, but IMHO these things are best combine with other holiday activity. eg For the 2004 course, Vanessa and Dolly dumped me at the venue and went on to do the treasures of Romanesque Provence, came back for the last night concert. Everybody happy  8)
