Theme for the Month for March 2013: Hornpipes
« on: February 28, 2013, 11:03:21 PM »

A nice simple theme this month folks; hornpipes. Any old kind; those English and Irish things in 4/4, those wonderful 3/2 things, whatever - I'm sure there's loads of these waiting to be played, so let's get recording!

Cheers,

Clive

I love hornpipes as well.... Trumpet Hornpipe perhaps, or the one I'm supposed to be learning for Melodeons and More (the tune won't stay in my head).

I'm another fan of hornpipes. I'm excited I'll actually be able to contribute this month  :||:

nothing fancy! I was going to tie it with stack of barley but transition is causing a melt down ( not in the hand position but in the head )

George Green's College Hornpipe.
Lester beat me to it but that's fair enough as I cribbed it from his tune-day blog anyway.
I'm particularly attracted to this as it's so local. George Green played for the Molly in Little Downham which is only a few minutes away from where I've worked for the last 20 years. What a jolly tune.

sailors hornpipe  https://soundcloud.com/boxcall/sailors-hornpipe

Excellent quirky version - where is it from?
I got it form Jerry O'Briens  Irish folk dance music
although my version I left out the noted G#'s.
but it's similar to what Joe Derrane and Jerry play on Irish accordion masters

It's usually played as 8 bar A part and 8 bar B part, but yours has 8 bar A and 10 bar B. Most unusual but very attractive.
