Never really much doubt which tune was going to win this month, it's an English tune Sheriff's Ride, also commonly known as Wraggle Taggle Gypsies from the song it's the tune for.

Here's some ABC courtesy of Lester:

Code: [Select]
X:429
T:Sheriff's Ride - Litchfield
M:4/4
L:1/8
K:Em
BA|G2 E2 E2 FG|AG F2 E2 B2|e2 e2 e2 fe|d2 B2 B3 B|
d2 d2 ed dc|dc BA A2 E2|G2 A2 dc BA|B2 E2 E4||
e2 e2 e2 fe|d2 B2 B3 B|e2 e2 e2 fe|d2 B2 B3 B|
d2 d2 ed dc|dcBA A2 E2|G2 A2 dc BA|BE E2 E2||

... and here's a youtube of it being played http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VsTeG1Kmhg (starts at 2:14).

It's a minor tune; comes out in Em when played on a D/G, and fits very nicely on a standard 2 row instrument. Well worth learning if you don't know it already.

Have fun folks - let's get lots of recordings this month.

Cheers,

Clive

An off the cuff posting, recorded as I was about to go out to work.

In E minor on a Castagnari Hascy D/G.

Hmm...  That link doesn't seem to be working.  Try this one;

Nicely played/sung Guy/Bill! To help encourage people who haven't played this tune before to have a go at learning it/playing it, here's a walkthrough of how I play it - broken down into phrases, fingering, chords, that sort of stuff. All on a D/G Hohner Pokerwork.

This is just how I play it of course - there are plenty of other ways to play it, as we've seen already! It's a bit of a random brain dump, so please excuse the places where I go off on a tangent, and completely contradict myself!

Cheers,

Clive

I wondered if the song tune was identical to the dance tune.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I started work on this last night but had my typical question of how best to realise the music e.g. playing tracts on a single row vs lots of row crossing. I was starting with row crossing to simplify belows movement but your method seems more straightforward fingering wise.

Did anyone spot that in the new BBC drama 'Mayday' they had a procession to the tune of - The Wraggle Taggle Gypsies. Does this count as their entry for TOTM?

Dear Clieve, Thank you for your work. I badly need encouragement. Would it be possible to include your chords into the ABC notes? That would be a big help.
All the Best and Thank You, Miklos

I'll have a look and see what I can do. I'm not necessarily playing the ABC version of course...

Clive, Thank You very much! Can I have your permission to use your chord arrangement in public performances either?

Of course, no permission necessary :-)

Clive's chords were a big help to me. I've already learned (more-or-less) Lester's version.
The ABC music on the webpage is significantly different from what Lester is playing in some passeges.
Here is my transcription of what Lester actually plays with chords and push-pull direction and button numbers (made with Joop Coolegem's ABCEdit).

Just checked mine through and disagree a little with you interpretation, but thanks for making me check my ABC from which I seem to have "progressed" over the years  ;)

I like that, well done and it is a fine example of having your own "the right way". And what a fearsome set of bellows on that box  :D
