Parenthesis around notes?
« on: March 05, 2013, 01:01:05 AM »

The first measure of the score for No N'hi ha Prou by Perepau Jiménez includes two notes enclosed in parenthesis. I'm guessing that the upper note in the octave is optional or perhaps is to be included only in the first pass but I can't find an example like this in any musical notation dictionaries. Anyone know the meaning of the parenthesis?

Yeah, that's pretty much right. Not sure with this example whether it's melodically or harmonically optional.
