It's horrible when you can't play....
« on: March 11, 2013, 11:32:30 AM »

It's horrible when you can't play. I bought my first melodeon last year and I was getting on really well with it for the first few months, then I had to leave the flat where I was living. Then followed 5 months living in a place where I couldn't practice at all because of the noise factor. Oh how I missed it - but Melnet kept me from going completely out of my tree! Now I have found a flat and my landlords don't mind the noise at all, I am practicing again every day...HALLELUJA!!!!
And on top of that, I have found a nice friendly little group of musicians who meet up in a pub once a week to play together. Two whistles, two fiddles, a guitar, a banjo and a really good melodeon player. They have promised that as soon as I can play a couple of tunes, I can go along and join in. What an incentive, what fun lies ahead!!!
Oh I love this game!!!

I missed my boxes for the two weeks I was on holiday, so I feel your pain.  Glad you're back in the saddle.  :)

The perfect excuse for MAD  ;D

I feared I would be in a similar situation this year at Uni, but luckily my flatmates are fine with me practicing.  (:) No idea about the people above me, but they've not complained, so sod 'em.  :P

Haha whenever I play with my window open people walking past stop, stare, smile and move on. Must be doing something right!
And my Chanson's back home in England, I didn't get a chance to properly finish the bellows, so had to leave it as a project I'll finish at Easter. Going home in 2 weeks so will get back to my Double-Ray and the Chanson project.
So gutting when boxes go bust and your left boxless, but I do have an essay due a week on Thursday so perhaps its a blessing in disguise?  >:E

Throughout my life I've been lucky enough not to have had that problem and I really do feel for you gang who do. However, when practising with Northumbrian Smallpipes and caravaning I would wander about half a mile away into some field and play to my hearts content. Didn't make any difference though, I'm still crap. At one stage, the local Police were called. Someone phoned in to say that the cows were making a peculiar noise. ( the case comes up next Thursday, I jest)
Come on Ted, get that Chanson going, Am still working on the bellows and could add some headphones.
Pneumatic ones that is.

Sometimes I'm asked if I can play Far, Far Away. I can't because I don't know that tune.

Hi John, welcome to melnet discussions.  I know how you feel. I am unable to travel without a box. I have been known to take then into hospitals when on night shift, i make an exception when I'm a patient myself. But I did take one into out patients in January to help the surgeon decide where not to cut  ;)

When I bought my first box, I couldn't help myself...I just had to play it all the way home. While I was driving.
