Smaller bellows
« on: December 31, 2008, 11:10:04 AM »

Hi
Not really spoken much on here before but got my first melodeon that is mine, not borrowed, for this Christmas!
Only been learning for just over a year
The melodeon i got this Christmas is a one row in g, Hohner but only has about 12 pleats, i think, in it's bellows, whereas the one i used to play had 16. Is this an unusual melodeon? Does anyone else have one like this and played just the same without running out of air? lol
Any comments/advice welcome
 :) thanks

12 pleats would be the norm, with the casing ends measuring 60mm. That said you sometimes find one rows with 75mm ends (same size as a 2 row) but still with 12 pleat bellows. Maybe the one you used was such an oddball or more likely the larger bellows had been retro fitted.

a strange lingering buzzing..........

lots of men my age would give their left arm for such a thing.

Check that the spoon closes completely......is the pad worn or is there any dust or dirt under it?

Otherwise, open it up and check the valve inside. Possibly a worn valve?
