Now for summat completely different.

I always seem to pick up odd versions of these tunes, minor instead of major or vice versa ...

Cuckoos Nest, as recorded this morning.

It looks like folks are slowing down, and getting a head start on the next TOTM.
Here's a compilation of takes on Cuckoo's Nest:

Dropping by to post mine for the die-hards before we all get booted out at closing time.

I'll caveat: my understand is that any "variant" is kosher, yes? So I'm going with the ribald ballad.

Note for this recording I'm cleverly cloaking my great skills in order to properly emulate the unskilled blue-collar worker such as would've purchased a cheap German melodeon at a local corner store and entertained his drinking buddies with a song or two. That's my alibi.

Thought I'd better take a crack at this before the end of the month. Out of the confusing variety of versions of this tune I picked Bill's (folkbluesnbeyond) melodic take. Here played (a bit faster than I would have liked) on a D/G Saltarelle Le Bouebe.

A couple of years late to the party, but I just wanted to share the arrangement that I've been working on for the past few weeks:

(Note to self: work on timing)

I see you were a complete beginner in 2012. That's three years apparently well spent developing musical RH phrasing, clever variations and harmonies and a playing style that's very much your own.

Well worth waiting for, if I may say so.  :|glug

That was really great Butimba.  After listening to this I immediately feel the need to go and re-visit this tune as I had never thought of playing it like that.

Thank you. That means a lot coming from you and has made me very happy!

Thanks! I don't think I would have thought of playing it like that either if I hadn't come across Andy Cutting's rendition (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuPkswYPxuo) - of which I have probably just created a sort of poor-man's version - and Chris Gardener's as well (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2pLyhi6k6s), which is also lovely.

So many of these traditional tunes have very lovely melodies which lend themselves to exploratory interpretations.
