free G/C tabs link
« on: March 19, 2013, 12:02:52 PM »

In the topic about "row crossing" Ken asked for more links and advice about G/C playing, so here it is : links to website with free tabs for G/C melodeon, mainly french sites with french music but not only. And as melodeon is a wonderfully made instrument you can use this tabs without any problem if your box is in C/F A/D Bb/Eb and even D/G (i know, it's fantastic   :D).

A famous Breton melodeonist, mainly Breton music, and some lovely compositions from the man himself. In french and english.

http://diato.org/tablat.htm
The site from the melodeon maker Bernard Loffet, a LOT of tablatures, Breton music, French Music, and for the adventurous player some Irish music in "cross row" technic (yes, we do that from this side of the channel...). In french and english.

http://diatojo.com/tablatures/
Dance music from the Morvan (an area in centre of France). In french only.

http://toraderweb.no/index.php/757217
A norvegian site with norvegian folk music and some from all over the world. In norvegian only

http://diato-amateurs.pagesperso-orange.fr/tablates.htm
The website from Anicet Le Marre, breton dance music, french folk music, songs, etc. In french only

http://www.diatonia.net/home.html
An italian site with a lot of folk music from all over the world. In italian only

If you need any advice about the way to use the tablatures, feel free to ask, they sometimes can be slightly different from a site to another.

For the sites not in English, I use Google Chrome which will translate into English.  Maybe not completely accurate, and often twisted, but nonetheless helpful.

The main thing is to find where are listed the scores (sometimes you can feel like Indiana Jones trying to decrypt an old manuscript, always wanted to be an archeologist ;D) , after that music notation is fortunately the same in all languages (almost).

Repertori per a Diatònic by Cèlia Vendrell and Víctor Pedrol http://www.gorramusca.cat/Apunts/repertori.pdf includes 200 or so tunes in standard notation.

Thank you, too, for those two more links.  I feel lucky to have found this group.

Caram! en català.
Google translate can handle Catalan though - not sure about Chrome. I don't have it due to being annoying, but have iron instead.

Perepau Ximenis' site https://sites.google.com/site/reialboc/ includes many tunes in G/C in downloadable pdf, some with audio examples. The text is in Catalan -- Google translate works but renders a pidgin English. You can use the menu on the left of his site to navigate to C1, G1, C2, G2, AM1, 6/8, C3, G3, AM2, Diattemes, or bon solstici d'hivern 2008! (or use the links below).

Here is a series of tunes, arranged by increasing difficulty, along with my approximate translation of the scope.
https://sites.google.com/site/reialboc/c-1 7 tunes in the key of C, using four buttons (one for each finger of the right hand) to play the eight notes of an octave.
https://sites.google.com/site/reialboc/c-1/g-1-1 9 tunes in the in G, using four buttons. This time we start with D, the fifth degree of the scale, to stay in one staff.
https://sites.google.com/site/reialboc/c-1/g-1-1/c-2 9 tunes in C, using five buttons to reach the second C with fingering instructions.
https://sites.google.com/site/reialboc/c-1/g-1-1/c-2/g-2 11 tunes in G, using six buttons, to reach almost two octaves.
https://sites.google.com/site/reialboc/c-1/g-1-1/c-2/g-2/am-1 9 tunes in A minor.
https://sites.google.com/site/reialboc/c-1/g-1-1/c-2/g-2/am-1/68 11 tunes written in the rhythm of 6/8 using buttons learned in any of the 5 areas above.
https://sites.google.com/site/reialboc/C3 12 tunes in C with some notes played on the G row.
https://sites.google.com/site/reialboc/C3/g3 12 tunes in G with some notes played on the C row.
https://sites.google.com/site/reialboc/C3/g3/am2 12 tunes in key of A minor, played across the rows.

The last three sets are written in "Standard Diatonic Notation"

  • The lower octave of the Bass Clef (starting with the C with 2 ledger lines) is assigned to bass notes which are drawn with the stem pointing up
  • The upper octave of the Bass Clef is assigned to chords, designated by the root of the chord with the stem pointing down
  • If the chord is non-standard for a G/C layout, the chord name is written above the note, as in Bm
  • If the bass and chord are eight notes (or smaller) the stems may be joined. If so the chord's stem may point up rather than down, but since the note is in the upper octave it is a chord.

https://sites.google.com/site/reialboc/diatemes = 20 tunes in various rhythms for one or two accordions, some with audio examples.

Finally, my personal favorite, no n'hi ha prou, which I believe translates as Enough Is Enough.
