Trouble Posting!
« on: May 04, 2013, 03:10:34 PM »

Hi all, I'm trying to create a topic in Buy and Sell but I keep coming up with an error message. The attachments aren't over the required size. What am I doing wrong??

It's the attachments. I can post with them in. They're only JPEGS so I can't see what the problem is!

They are probably too big max 256K per picture and 512Kb per post. Best bet is to put them up on Flikr or similar and link to them.

Thanks for that. I made very sure that they weren't too big. Now some of my PMs aren't getting to my buyer so we're going to have to talk by email (which is easier of course!). And the site's taking time to load up.

I do wonder if there are some problems here! :(

If you're getting problems with straight text, and you're getting a thoroughly unhelpful page not found error, you've probably met this very annoying problem:

The trick is to think carefully about your wording, and what could be tripping the filter...

And if it is a long  post, compose it in a text editor.

I am in the habit of selecting all the text and [ctrl]C copying it onto my "clipboard" if a post gets over long :|bl Less hassle than running a separate text editor window, but good insurance against any sort of unsuspected naughtiness in the text.

OK your machine can still crash, but now were having to save separate editor stuff to disk!  I only do so much paranoia in a social group  ;)

If I'm in Firefox or Conkeror (no, not the KDE web browser but this) then I use an addon that with a click or key binding opens the text area in GNU Emacs (using emacsclient). Another key binding in Emacs sends the text back to the browser. A hook adds the text to the Emacs kill ring just in case.

It's not really because of this posting problem that I do it, but because writing and editing text in a web browser is such a pain.
