Strangulation is of course a reasonable possibility but then those so effected would not be here to worry about it!
There seems to be a lot cheering coming from the general direction of Concertina.net, or is that just my imagination?  ;D

I might be tempted to try the guitar strap setup, where a wide strap goes over the left shoulder, and down under the right arm.

At the Northeast Squeeze-In this past weekend it appeared that most (maybe all) of the semitone DBA players were using one strap and most (maybe all) of the quint DBA players were using two straps. It certainly looked like an image thing. I also saw two quint DBA players using back straps as well.

What's a "quint DBA player" or have I missed something?

It's a misprint for "quaint diatonic button accordion player" - and means anybody playing a D/G, C/F, G/C, etc.  ;)

Sorry for the confusion. Steve has it right :-) It's a box with the inside row tuned five semitones above the outside row.

Errr... I think a "fourth" is in fact 5 semitones, a "quint" (or fifth) is 7 semitones.

This topic brings up the question - Is two straps one too many or one strap one too few?? ;D

I always used always to play with one strap.  Sitting down I'd cross my legs and brace the instrument against my thigh, and push against the shoulder strap.  Standing was a bit more difficult but I seemed to manage.

Part of the reason was that two straps didn't seem cool, all the players I admired seemed to use only one.  The other reason was that using two straps seemed to lash the instrument close against my body, and I found it awkward to play like this.

Now I'm older and more decrepit, I've found that playing cross-legged for too long can bring on sciatica.  But I've found a way of attaching the top of the right strap to the left strap (rather than to the bracket) which holds the instrument tight so it doesn't move about but allows the box to hang away from my body a bit, which I find is a more comfortable angle for playing.  So now I've changed to playing with 2 straps (I never was cool anyway).
