Help with tune needed
« on: January 10, 2009, 07:19:59 PM »

Hello,
   I'm learning the bluebell polka amongst other things, because I find taxing and that's got to be good. I can get through the first part slowly.  At the beginning of part 'B' I'm faced
 with a run up the buttons, I'm doing it as follows;

A  A  F#  A  d  f#  a  a  f#
2  2  1   2  3  4   3  3  1
-   -  +   -   -  +   -   -  +

I'm sorry that's so small.  I've used - & + for pull & push ( is that right? )

 How does that seem ?
                                Thanks for your time

OK, just looked at the other threads - it's B/C - can't help I'm afraid - never got my head round chromatic systems.

There are any number of ways of fingering that passage but based on what you have there, I'd substitute finger 1 for finger 4 on the high f#.  The transition from f#-4 to a-3 is very awkward - for my hands, at any rate. Others might find it comfortable, I don't know.

Another way to try it: jump to the d with finger 1 and then use 2 and 3 for the f# and a respectively.

An awkward passage though - arpeggiated figures like in the key of a D are a strong argument for the C#/D system. OTOH playing in D minor is much easier on a B/C...

 for what its worth i use the 2nd finger for the high F# as this makes the next bit of the tune easier to play.  playing semitone boxes is abit like playing chess - you need to think 6 moves ahead - i.e. you need to know where you are coming from in relation to where you are going!
