Gurdy? No! It's a melophone.

(Honestly, reminds me of someone coming up after a gurdy recital and remarking, "I didn't know it had reeds...")  ;)

So is this an actual, rare, bona fide "collectors piece" - unlike, for instance, the "rare" old Hohners so often listed on EBay?!

The Met has a pretty interesting collection of early free-reed instruments on display, all of which are quite odd-looking.

Yes, only ever seen one before and that was in a museum.
