Hohner Club II B grey
« on: January 31, 2009, 02:25:17 PM »

Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone has any info/opinions on Hohner Club II B grey pearloid. I had look inside but only date is from a bass modificaton in 1986. How old would it be ? Does anyone here have/play one ? Are they any good ?

Thanks

Photos would help, especially if it's an older model - logo typeface, grille style, reed type, celluloid pattern, etc.  Either way, you're looking at a rough date of 10-20 years, in most case nothing more than a "period" date.

My Club is grey pearl (1930s 3-voice but not Club III, in fact it doesn't say Club anywhere).  But it's a weird grey-green color and closely grained pattern that I haven't seen on many other boxes.  It plays quite nicely but needs work - the basses are enough to wake the neighbors and the air button is especially lovely, a big fat bar like opening a gate in the St. Lawerence.  I'm excited to get it up and playing again, currently contemplating whether I should replace the reeds with Hohner stock or something else.

Grill detail is very similar to my Club IIIM, which I believe to be early/mid 70s.  Beyond that I wouldn't like to say.

Yes, they are are pretty good  ;D

They built them from the 50s onward with that downward Hohner logo - I think perhaps the placement of the model name could provide a better date, if someone had a similar box with a better date to use as a reference.
