Still squeezing after all these years.
Mostly on hohners , with a couple of Dinos and a smattering of anglos - and now a Jeffries duet

I think that's a song that's best forgotten pikey, and it's an awful dirge anyway.

Maybe Lili Marlene would make a much better TOTM, seeing that it meant so much to those on both sides during WW2, and it has a swing to it.

Or, if you really want an appropriately-titled Nazi tune for this forum, might I suggest the rousing marching song of the Waffen SS - "Erika" ?
... snippety snip

I don't think suggestions of Nazi anthems and SS marching tunes is the way to go (remember, it is still a criminal offence to play the Horst Wessel song, outside the classroom, in certain countries), it rather spoils the theme of Squeezy's original and very funny video.

To lighten the tone again, here is a bit of British film humour from 1941:

i've generally avoided songs that glorify the aggressive aspects of the military, over 40+ years now.

For the record there is an adequate supply of machismo within Britain (from the two wars, Irish insurrection etc) Alongside a larger body of a penumbral nature. Descriptions of the battle itself. Songs about recruitment, getting there, life in the field, injury and handicap, effects on relationships, right down to the ol' broken token stuff.  I imagine "other side" societies will have generated very similar stuff; the French tradition certainly has it.

So plenty to go at without descending to frank militarism? As for Mr H … surprisingly little compared to what was penned about Napoleon B. But I can cope with that.

It was a joke !! Hence the emoticon. It was a bad joke though , so I've removed the post. Sorry if I offended.  Pikey.

Brilliantly done. I just shared it on facebook. My friends either do Irish or are opposed to all squeezeboxes so no one will get the joke but it was too good not to share.

"I bet they've been de-clubbing them too"  ;D

I live in deepest, darkest Bavaria and just took a delivery of heating oil.  The lorry driver glanced into my office and took a big interest in my Liliput and Preciosa lying on a chair in there (he was a player too - Morino).  Anyway, we had a nice chat and I played him some morris tunes.  But then talk got to tunings and I revealled that one of them had been converted to D/G and both were de-clubbed.  "De-clubbed? Why would you do such a stupid thing" was his response "it is an ingenious system that has revolutionised accordion playing..." (etc).  I think he finished up with something about the English not understanding these things, and promptly left.  Reminded me of John's clip...

Old news, I'm afraid.
Original thread by our very own Squeezy (who made the video) here.

All is explained by this rare (facebook I'm afraid) pre-war footage from GBH, erstwhile of this parish, demonstrating exactly why ::) the Reichsführer took such a dim view of Morris Men ;)

I'm sure Grock "the king of clowns", mime, acrobat, juggler, English concertina and PA player, would have loved it - even if he was fêted by Hitler (who told him he'd seen his show 13 times!) in Berlin in 1934, and is said to have displayed signed photos of the Reichsführer in his Italian Riviera villa...

So now we know what would make Hitler laugh, but who'd want him for a "fan"?   :o ???
