Hi all melneters who either play French, are French, or at least appreciate or even just know a thing or two about French tunes.  I am looking for a uniquely French Xmas tune, the sort of thing that every Frenchman and Frenchwoman, "tous les francais et les francaises" would know.  I am not looking for a universal tune so much as something "uniquement francais."
I am not just looking for names of songs so much as links to tab as well.  Hoping to learn something by the big day, and not proficient enough by ear to do otherwise.
Many thanks for any help

Petit Papa  Noel - known by every child in the country and quite a pretty tune

(How strange! Listening to that brought memories flooding back of when my children were growing up. Where do these emotions hide and how come they manage to ambush me?)

ps for dots search "petit papa noel partition"

Hi Grape Ape,

The traditional French song/tune "Il est ne le divin enfant" seems to tick the boxes you are after ... there are loads of You-tubes of it being performed by various choral groups ...

It's a very charming, and pretty straightforward tune - plays really nicely on the Melodeon!

Can't help with tab, but this Youtube link has 'les mots' ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXUN7Yo98Iw

cheers

Thanks for the link. As you say, nice and structured tune, should lie on the melodeon rather well. I've come across it a dance tune in bals folk but never appreciated it as a carol. Have arrived into France a couple of times on 26 Dec, but their Xmas mostly seems to happen on the 24th, ends on 25th. My friends found the Britanique concept of a "boxing day" rather incomprehensible and are back in work, not singing carols!

A friend of mine, Joelle Morris, has put out a CD of French xmas stuff.  She's the real deal.
