Replacement bellows
« on: September 12, 2013, 12:12:17 PM »

I see that Hobgoblin are offering Scarlatti bellows for £75. They say they will fit Hohner Pokerworks. Anyone out there had any experience with them? If they are any good it seems a steal......

You're right Kimric, but until someone gives them a go we'll never know ...and from the very few people I know who've owned Scarlatti boxes ( mostly briefly I have to say ) I never heard any complaints  about the bellows....plenty about most every thing else though.... :||: :(

Presumably, if you were to buy genuine Hohner bellows they will now be Chinese?
I have sold old Black Dots to parents of children who could not cope with Scarlattis, primarily because the bellows were too stiff. Maybe they would have had the same problems with a new Hohner, who knows?

New Hohner bellows I've played don't suffer from being stiff, but they do wear very easily because the gold edging tape is just paper.  The Scarlatti ones might be stiffer, but may also be harder wearing.  Hohner bellows are also the most expensive,  at about £230 last time I checked.

Where did you find these Scarlatti bellows listed?
I looked at Hobgoblin and could only find Hohner bellows listed (at an outdated? price of about £190.)
Interesting to see they also list a Scarlatti Child's Melodeon exactly like the Chanson and its siblings.
Does this mean that Scarlatti, Chanson, Serenellini are made by one of these "order ten and we will put whatever name you like on" it manufacturers?

Scarlatti Bellows are here.  I see they are only 15 fold, which might help explain some of the stiffness.  Hohner pokerwork are 18 fold.

So another site with an unreliable search!
