Raggle Taggle Gypsies
« on: February 14, 2009, 12:58:07 AM »

The Morris side for whom I play is about to learn a new dance (in the Lichfield tradition, I believe) to which the tune is a version of Raggle Taggle Gypsies in E minor. I need a copy of the dots from which to learn the tune. The only E minor version I have been able to find is the one Wayzgoose uses for a molly dance, which they have posted on ABC Tunefinder. I have been told that the A music in that version is about right but the B music "goes down when it should go up". Can anyone point me in the direction of another E minor version of this tune that might fit the bill?

Guess you are learning Sherrif's Ride from Lichfield which is indeed a Raggle Taggle Gypsies variant:

Best place for morris tunes is Lionel Bacon's Black Book ABCs

Thanks, Lester! This is the version I wanted. I had completely forgotten that Sheriff's Ride is danced to the Raggle Taggle Gypsies - hardly surprising really, since I last danced Sheriff's Ride in the early 1970s when I was with Hammersmith Morris.
