Tune of the Month for November 2013: The Blossom and the Rain
« on: November 01, 2013, 09:13:09 AM »

Well, that's a pretty comprehensive victory, isn't it? Brian Peter's lovely air/waltz, The Blossom and the Rain.

Here's as definitive a version as you could hope for, played by Brian himself

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLxfc7l63Pg

Don't have any ABC to hand I'm afraid, but maybe if we're lucky some will be along in a minute?

Cheers,

Clive

I'd be delighted to make an early contribution:
This piece is just wonderful.

Here's my interpretation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTisW7FeJnQ

and here's where I played it (not quite so well) in public:

I hope many people who don't know this tune yet will give it a go - it's gorgeous!

First, I'm very flattered that you chose my tune.

Second, I'm enjoying the contributions so far, and look forward to hearing more.  It's great to see your own child going feral!

Lastly (and with some trepidation after following the current FB discussion regarding ill temper on melnet), the title I gave the piece was The Blossom and the Rain and, though it may seem picky to quibble over a mere definite article, I would like to see the full title at the head of this thread and any future YouTube submissions.  Ta!

Just making an observation.....we now have two interpretations of The Blossom and The Rain.

The first, by Zubz played so sensitively and imaginatively on his Castagnari. And WOW, isn't that a wonderful performance! The tune itself is very pure and very beautiful and it is perfectly matched to the Castagnari sound.

Secondly, we have folkbluesnbeyond playing The Blossom and The Rain on a Pokerwork and the result, for me, is equally beautiful in a different way. It's like Tom Waits singing Nessun Dorma! The contrast between the earthy sound of the Pokerwork and the purity of the tune seem to enhance each other.

I love both versions equally and for completely different reasons.

Learnt from Brian's video a few years ago. It's one complete tune that I really didn't want to play around with (for a change).

Audio only so you can't see the stop changing  :Ph, played on a Saltarelle Nuage (DG).

... some very good versions of this so far! Here's my effort:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9bKB8P1PXk

Played simply as a slow air (no explicit waltz, though I suppose the rhythm is still there if you listen closely enough) on the Bb/Eb Hohner Preciosa which I think is just great at playing this sort of slower stuff.

Cheers,

Clive

Some nice versions on here, liked the strength of emotion in there Clive.
Was interested in Brian's comment "and with some trepidation after following the current FB discussion regarding ill temper on melnet"  is this some secret side to melnet? we should be told  ::) All the Best mory

is this some secret side to melnet?

Nope, just a melnet member discussing recent events with other melnetters that are friends on FB. And no, it wasn't me - although I did comment!

Superb! Not only are the interpretations great, but it's interesting to hear the distinctive sound of each different box.
