Prototype accidental lever
« on: August 12, 2017, 03:40:36 PM »

I'd advise anyone who is skilled (i.e. the fettlers) to take a deep breath before looking.
I have an older Castagnari 2 row which I don't play as much because of not having the D# on a helper row.
So I've started to experiment with a lever to access that button. It seems to work well so far, though improvements are obviously needed to stop lateral movement and it will be less roughly hewn - and of nicer wood etc.
Has anyone else done this mod? I have caused minimal disruption as the lever is fixed to the grill housing rather than the box - and there were already signs of mic holes etc there.
Here's a quick video tour - not played though.

I have a much simpler and more  and much   less invisible remote control for the G row chin accidentals on my lilly. Chris ryall photgraphed it  and posted the photos somewhere on here  ?4 or 5 years ago.  I also did a linkage on a pokerwork which is dead easy on any flat keyboard and pretty unobtrusive

Yes, that's nicer. I'll have a play around with some wire.

Castagnari actually do that on a few models,I have a Stephania in stock which is a Laura model with repeater buttons in the middle, also on the 1914 the accidentals are actually in the middle and not repeaters.

Did you use coat hanger wire? Because of the Sander design I'll have to mount it to the grille. Just out of interest why didn't you just mount the wire in the end blocks rather than your design of plug terminals?

P&T, how are you seeing George's version?

Also, have you tried using your thumb? It's what I do for those long reaches and though it takes some practice, works well in the longrun and keeps boxes looking pretty...

I wonder if the mechanism could somehow be behind the grill...

I did a search for lever and found it in November 2013. It is much neater. I'll try it first with coat hanger wire. But I have very little clearance under the grille.
