Rivington Morris seeking musicians
« on: November 23, 2013, 02:18:14 PM »

A friend of mine has been in touch to say that Rivington Morris is seeking melodeon players. You can play the melodeon for them even if you're a bloke, but to dance for them you have to be a woman. From the website www.rivingtonmorris.org.uk

These demure cultured women hail from near Bolton in Lancashire. Their clogs have been heard as far afield as Sidmouth, Germany, France, Holmfirth, Wigan, Accrington and Blackrod Carnival. Hundreds have looked on in awe and marvelled at their stunning stepping, precision, music and reinforced foundation garments. On-lookers have been heard to say "Rivington have that certain indefinable something that Northern teams have ..." or "Make room - these Women take no prisoners".

They dance North West style. (I can't get there myself. Their practice night is Wednesday. Wednesday is the regular session night at The Beech in Chorlton, South  Manchester. You're very welcome there too, of course).

Shame I'm from down south, saw them at Whitby and thought they were fabulous, would be a joy to play for!

If I could 'beam myself over' from Anglesey on a Wednesday night I would gladly do so  but alas its too far to travel by normal means!

They are indeed a wonderful dance side and have been for many years. Hope they get the musician they deserve!
