Theme of the Month for December 2013: Christmas again!
« on: December 01, 2013, 12:55:38 AM »

Yes folks, we will be festive again; it's December, and that's time for Christmas music and/or music linked with Winter (or Summer if you're in the southern hemisphere of course). Deck the halls and ho ho ho, etc!

Cheers,

Clive

Carefully avoiding anything specifically Christmassy, but definitely festive and seasonal:

Hot Punch and Hogmanay

YouTube seem to have changed their processing. It took me a silly amount of time to find a way of getting the upload to work without YT telling me there was a mysterious error and refusing to save my annotations (though it actually processed the video - go figure ???); in the end the answer (for me) was to upload in .MKV (Matroska) format instead of .MP4.

Winters Night Schottische, Stephen Baldwins version

Hello, thanks for this tune it has reminded me that I did play it a long time ago.  I notice that you are playing the b part in Em and I play it I think in A, also that Ian Dedic says there is a third part..........

Hello Ian...... can you or someone else point me in the right direction for the dotes or ear music for the third part.  I live in Herefordshire so it would be a good tune to add especially at this time of year.

Thank you

Ah, jolly good, love that tune - we used to (and everyone else still does, I just haven't been for a while) play that down the George Inn session down London a lot; did Bruno le Tron actually write it? I'd no idea where this came from...

Finally, I've found a Christmas tune I haven't done already... here we go, Christmas Day Ida Moarning !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnjns2Vjgmo

This is a gorgeous 'listening tune' from Shetland, written by Shetland fiddler Fredamann Stickle who used to play this tune to the laird every Christmas apparently (according to the Session.org website anyway, and I've no reason to doubt it). Popularised by the playing of the great Tom Anderson.

The Preciosa's away having a small tune up, so here it's played in D on the Streb electronic melodeon using a sample set taken the dry reeds from my Castagnari Mory , although with these settings it sounds rather more expressive and almost like a harmonica I would say - in all the years I've had the Streb, I've never known it could do this before. Cute.

Cheers,

Clive

A little bit of festive silliness from me, played with more enthusiasm than skill and some silly hats too.

Here's the first one Rub-a-Dub

and another

Good King Wenceslas.  This one includes a cure for melodeon face too.  Bonus.

I was going to continue but I was running out of silly hats and Coops (husband) started asking me if I could play 'Silent Night'.  On the whole I think that was a hint.

All the best of the season to you all  (:)

Finally caught up with this - absolutely lovely!
Also it's a tune I already knew, but had forgotten about.
One to brush the dust off for our last weekly session before Christmas - thank you!

O How Joyfully - Napolitana de chocolate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxwIrr-_i4I

A German carol with Italian roots paired with a tarantella written by a Spaniard, Chabier Aparizio. Played on a Dino Baffetti Binci 3-voice melodeon.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

Nothing new or original from me, just a Deck The Halls to wish everyone on melodeon.net a happy Christmas.
