However ... there is a particularly elderly gentleman who I have been privileged to watch dance a few times called Percy West and his step-dancing is still spot on and inspirational.

Percy should be an official national treasure.
I've actually had the privilege of playing for him too.

Homework
Identify three activities where "enthusiasm" produces negative outcomes.
You may not include areas where religious fervour is a factor - that probably excludes Morris
Originally "enthusiasm" was literally being filled (ie possessed) by the god, and at least until the late eighteenth century, that was its only meaning. It is only since the late nineteenth century that its secondary meaning of "over-keen" has taken over, probably influenced by the working man's newspapers, especially the sports reporters who absolutely loved showing off their verbal skills.
PEDANT! (Before anybody else says it!)  :Ph  :neigh:  :|glug

To be fair, I think over 100 years of 'misuse' really does constitute redefinition...

In part I think the large bands are due to the fallibility of human joints with increasing years. A lot of injured players seem to take up an instrument (or a drum) to stay involved.

Erm...me ?
That's rubbish Malcolm. How many Morris musicians do you see who are old decrepit ex- Morris dancers in a band. Very few if any I suspect.  >:E

Still squeezing after all these years.
Mostly on hohners , with a couple of Dinos and a smattering of anglos - and now a Jeffries duet
