Came across this 2005 video about the festival when I was surfing on from the Leveret link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZILpewfctw - gets the 'feel' very nicely

Dates of next year's festival have gone up on Facebook. They are the 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th of July 2015. Doesn't clash with anything else I have planned so far, so looking forward to making it there this time :)

I like the idea of an informal beef - what's that, Chris?

See last word on this month's flier ...

the way there (and back) is through Charolais country, and the steak&chips lunch is something of a French institution ;) Ch d'Ars site food is quite good though, I don't cook.  :|glug

Post Xmas communique is fairly bland, but they still seem to have their bank's confidence, and a programme is being negotiated. 2014 accounts will be shown at 30 Jan AGM, down in the village of Nohant if you happen to be passing ;). It was very wet, so if they made a profit they've done well.

leSonContinu 2015,will run Sat 11 - Tuesday 14 July, including a weekend, and Bastille day as per tradition.  That's a day longer than last year, Seems a positive sign. :|glug

[ed] just found an English version  (:)

Nice "medley" ;) of last year's slightly touch and go festival. Many friends there, Emanuel Pariselle at 5'22" and yours truly, briefly to the left of the stage 2'52". Callum Armstrong was a real star. The French don't relish giving 1st place in bagpiping to a Brit, but he truly played the socks off the opposition

http://youtu.be/yii72tDmV9U. There was a bit more rain than this video suggests, but forecast for July is constant sun, as per tradition.

They have just changed the FB profile to this nice pic of the chateau. Still carefully avoiding all reference to the old festival.

  " Instrument Fair o  Concerts  o  Dance  o  Sessions "

… bit better than the "museum with a garden party" advertised last year ;)

The Calais route is loooong drive and tends to take you round the Paris Peripherique: you'll need to avoid rush hours, but out of then … it is simply 'diabolical'.   The comfort route is Caen/St Malo;  doddle down though Normandy … Alençon le Mans, Tours; Brittany (also the lovely, rural, virtually unknown Mayenne) are nice stopovers. You can now take doggy if he's 'chipped' and vaccinated.

Shame to drive that far for 4 days?  There is always 'Grand Bal' immediately afterwards - 2 hours or so further south in Moulins. Morvin Hills are also great camping (suggest Anost), and good for folk events. Auvergne's Festival les Volcaniques at Saint-Bonnet-près-Riom, looks on for July 4-8 and is a great bop!! I see several melnetters are going there in August ;)

Thanks Chris, I'll look into it. Unfortunately I'm on a rota with built in leave at work so extending holidays is 'difficult' to say the least.
Do they allow dogs at the festival? They're both chipped and vaccinated. I think it might be a bit warm for them though to be honest. Bob

I saw a few dogs there last year.
It was quite cold with some rain.

Ah right! I'd looked on the net and it said it would be pretty hot in that region in summer.
What did you think of the festival Rees? Bob

Good bits: Incredible value for money, friendly faces, great sessions, concerts, dances and all those melodeon makers!

Bad bits: Gurdies, bagpipes and dodgy toilets.

Berry (South of the Loire) is the oil growing centre of France and you'll see vast fields of ripening sunflowers that can be quite glorious by late July. They always put into my head Fred Paris's Rue de Ouiseux album … a tape (bought at the festival) that became totally denuded of Fe02 from over-playing.

Like us, the French are starting to believe in climate change. In the 90s the baking summer heat traditionally brought  terrific thunderstorms, but these were brief.  On reason for the festival's recent problems was a vast weather system in July 2012 - it was a sea of mud, that affected 2014 attendances too. Similar storms produced big floods in S France in the recent 2 years (as here)

Last year it rained moderately hard some time most days, but this was on top of similar weather throughout late June. The Brit's generally laughed this off, but French complained at the ease that they cold put their tent pegs in if you know what I mean. As the concerts are open air they were affected too. Nevertheless you can expect a lot of bright sunshine and a tractor to help extract your van should the need arise. :|glug

Rees, jamming with AFAIF Dave Berry Jolly & Alan Lamb last year - note clouds; green grass!
