Hohner Morino Club
« on: February 20, 2009, 03:18:48 AM »

Does anyone here know if the Morino Club C/F can be ordered as a three row (ADG) rather than the C/F with an inside row of accidentals.
               Thanks

Probably but why?  Considering the price there are quality Italian accordions configured that way.

that would make  a very nice basis for a 21st century trichord if tuned BCC# preferably 3 voice musette with 12 ( or better stilll 24 (12x2) stradella bass.

After playing a Morino  last night I would just wish to be strong and fit enough to play one. With 5 reeds in the treble and 12 basses with many reeds it weighed a ton :)

C/F and a long (didn't count) row of accidentals plus long row of couplers. It had couplers inconviently mounted next to the air button. The bass layout was 3 rows of 4 buttons with one row playing what sounded like 7ths.

For sale right now:http://www.blocket.se/stockholm/Hohner_Morino_Club___Durspel_med_cassotto_31481586.htm?ca=1_9&w=3
Seems like a real dinosaur. A bit pricey i think, but its the first time ive seen one of these for sale.

Is it the only melodeon with both cassotto and bass registers?

I'm in the process of having a 3rd Morino club retuned to b/c/c# and replacing 12 basses with stradella system.  I only have one completed with 60 bass & midi.  I have the treble done on another which doesn't belong to me but I am supervising the conversion.  The 3rd is still in original form but is in the hands of the tuner.

Played one tonight all night.  Love the cassotto sound and the 5 voices :)  Also perfect size for travelling!  Like a mini Shand Morino that sounds a bit different.  Slightly harder work to play but I reckon thats the size that does that.

I have acquired one of these beasts recently, for reasons which I haven't quite explained to myself ( :|glug or  >:E).  Initially I thought, OMG, what have I done - let's get it on Fleabay quick.  But after sorting out where the notes are, it all became strangely familiar, because I am also an GC anglo player, and lo, is not the Club system derived therefrom ( ???).  And once you have sorted out the weight issue(ok, by Pokework standards, it's heavy, but have you felt the weight of some those PAs - is that why Scottish dance bands sit?), and the fact it's plastic, it doesn't half make a lovely sound, and it is really easy to play.  Maybe a dinosaur - that would account for the interesting scales ( ;D), but definitely characterful.
Ah, but the basses  :D!  Here is a question - if you don't go down Graeme's route and replace the whole caboodle with a stradella - what would be your choice for a 3x4 12 bass layout, given the genre of British/Irish traditional music?

Just out of curiosity, what does it cost to do one of these conversions? Quite a lot, I would have thought.

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to just by a purpose-built B/C/C# melodeon with stradella from the start?
