Our band's keyboard player is Polish, and was trained at the Krakow Academie of music. When we first recruited her into the band, she was slightly bemused at what goes on, having not really encountered anything like it before. We persuaded her to introduce us into a bit of Polish folk music, and she eventually said, "Well there's always the polkas, of course." She's given us two, 'Dziadek', and 'Taniec chłopski' (Farmer's Dance), and I can give the scanned images of the music, which I think is written out for Piano Accordion players. They seem the sort of music that might accompany schools doing displays of traditional dances, and are quite complex. They are also fairly fast (I can only keep up if I play rhythm guitar) and sound a bit as if they might go well on a Steirische. We occasionally play them as tunes if Maria brings her PA along, but haven't worked out how to fit the complex arrangements into social dances.
