OK, so I decided to have a go at each TOTM for 2014. I've been playing for less than two years and this tune is obviously well out of my league but couldn't really duck out of my resolution as early as February.

So posted with some trepidation, here is my attempt at The Abbess.

What's not to like, and you are more of a man than me as I've not even tried  (:)

this tune is obviously well out of my league

It's not obvious to me! It may be a little out of your comfort zone and would benefit from more practise to get your confidence up a bit but you played it well at a rock steady tempo. Once you're totally at home with the melody you can experiment with the L/H although that's pretty impressive at this stage too.

Helena, there's absolutely no indication in your YT vid that this tune is 'out of your league' at all! When The Abbess was voted for as TOTM I thought there'd be hardly any postings as I thought it was a really tough piece to play. I'm happy to admit I was wrong about the number of recordings.  If you can play this well in such a short time, I don't think you'll have much problem keeping your resolution to have a crack at the TOTM each month - unless there's a concerted effort one month to vote for a tune that hardly anyone can play! Well done! (:)

Just when I could have used a longer month, we turn up with a shorter one.  :(   It's all about the bellows control, isn't it?

Thanks, Mr. C, for another beautiful piece.

Now that was a hard one. But, it helped me discover my pulled g on the third row and now that button is not quite so unfamiliar a stretch.

I marvel at how the chords dance around with the melody and thank Bill for posting the dots with chords.

Brilliant, well done. I, like Leicester, haven't even tried - and my pneumonia isn't an excuse !

Mostly on hohners , with a couple of Dinos and a smattering of anglos - and now a Jeffries duet

Nice playing Philip, and a great melodeon wall display!  I would build one of those myself, but then my wife would realise how many I actually owned...which would not be good  (:)

Thanks.  IKEA built the display and MAD stocked it. About the wife . . .

Here is my hastily but intensively learnt version. I'm fully aware of the issues - especially lack of smoothness and heavy left hand, but I love the tune and wanted an immediate project to get my teeth into after the lay off.

Hells teeth, that is nice, and nicely played in my opinion. Lovely box as well. I want one of those.

End of the month folks; we've had lots of great videos this month; lovely to see so many people having a go; especially those originally frightened off! See you *can* do it!  :D

Late contributions as always very much appreciated - just stick 'em on the end here.

Tried to listen to your Abbess but wouldn't play for some reason.  Went back to your first Serafini post and that played fine.  You may want to repost and check it works.  The older post by the way was well cool. Smooth.  Hope allergy clears up.

Just checked on a couple of different computers, and it seems to work ok. Could I ask you to try again? Unfortunately even with the Rik, I've been noticing reactions - and on reflection, when I was playing the accordion a lot, I had real problems at work (had to use a mic to teach). So it looks like game over. I'll move on to another instrument, though. Maybe harmonica or guitar.

Will be a real shame considering your evident musical affinity for the melodeon. But needs must and I really wish you well with the next step.

I know i'm going backwards in time, but i had to take the chance to have a go at this beautiful piece of music. Played in G on a G/C Tania Rutkowski accordion. I hope you enjoy!

7 months later and I've finally gotten around to learning this tune a bit better. Still got a lot of embellishments to figure out and there's a glaring mistake in the last run through, but pretty pleased to finally be able to play it reasonably!
