Here's my rather pedestrian version, played on my lovely Liliput conversion.  I haven't really got to grips with the box yet as I only picked it up from Lester on Thursday afternoon but I'm thoroughly enjoying getting my fat hands used to those those tiny buttons  (:)

New Year's Boxolution to do TOTM each month, 3 out of 3 so far *phew*

Nearly ran out of time this month, and I had the same New Year's resolution Helena (:).

I'm not using nearly enough of the bellows - what's the point of having a full set of bellows if I only use a quarter of them ::).

Nicely played! Your bellows use is fine. You don't have to make huge bellows movements unless you are really going for loud passages on a single bellows direction. You have an excellent instrument with reeds which respond beautifully, so you can easily be economical with the amount of bellows extension which you use.

However, what I do notice from your Youtube video is that the melody end of the instrument often moves around a lot when you are making rapid bellows changes. That means energy is being wasted - instead of pushing air through the reeds, it's being used to wobble the end around. You can hear that when you occasionally momentarily lose the sound on a bellows direction change.

It's not ever so bad - I've seen a lot worse - but if you can reduce the wobble, possibly by adjusting your straps and the angle of holding the instrument, your playing will instantly become cleaner. I note that you are playing standing up and that's fine, but it makes it even more critical to get the RH end stability right. As an experiment try playing sitting down with crossed legs and jambing the RH end in the crook of your knee/thigh to increase the rigidity. You should be able to notice the difference in the way the notes speak on the bellows changes. For standing up, you might want to experiment with a 'droopy' position - see my avatar picture. This helps because gravity is assisting you keeping the RH end steady.

Hope these suggestions help and that you don't mind my critical observations.

Thank you - I don't mind critical observations at all, any suggestions are a big help (:).

I don't know whether I've got more wobble now because I was trying for a while to convert to playing with one strap, but just couldn't get the hang of it - it's OK when sitting down, but the whole box seemed to get away from me when standing up.  I tried the 'droopy' position, but it just felt too loose, and realised that maybe I'm too much of a control freak to play in such a relaxed style.

So after all that I don't think I now have the straps set right for playing with two.  This strap thing is more complicated than it first appears!

Here's my sloppy last minute entry and my first TOTM for some while. Played in Bb on a beige Hohner Liliput, declubbed treble end, Bb/Eb, tuned to perfection last year by Martyn White.
Sorry the picture is very dark. I blame the excitement over the light evenings. As soon as the lights were switched on it wasn't happening I'm afraid. Hopefully the audio should do the Liliput justice though.

Thanks! Your attempt is not lame at all. Sounds good and completely appropriate for almost midnight. Both Gary and I are jones-ing for a one-row. What flavor is yours?

Ooo! Beltuna! Like to take that for a spin. I'm in the mysterious heart of downtown Portland. I'm quite familiar with Bowdoin. My old job took me there on a regular basis.
