Rees

Can you please send me a copy of the text you were trying to post.  I would like to take it up with our web host.

I'm having similar problems and have, for the best part, stopped quoting text as that seems to trigger problems and any more that 3 links in a post seems to be problematic.

it would be really nice if our webmasters might offer some sort of list of 403 triggers (obviously not on their own website ;)).  That would take some of the apparent randomness out of this. Took me an hour or so to sort it, and i actually knew what a 403 was! For a naive user it must be really confusing :|glug

Hi Theo

I can't recall which posts I was replying to last night, there were a couple.
They were straight replies without any quotes.

I wandered off then came back to melnet later and posted a reply to something else without a problem.

I've just had one too

Excellent video, thanks. I think the only thing that's changed since my expedition is the sign on the door. In 1991 it was a little plaque, no bigger than the bellows sttrap* on a Lilly model

Theo *gave 404 error initially, doubled its "t" and got a 403. This is a close browser .. and repost ...

Is the kind of 403 with the error message giving you your "ticket" and an address to contact your "WEBMA5TER"?  I Googled some of the text of that quite dodgy message and found possible solutions on discussion forums, saying to add the URL to honeypot.org or the like - a global whitelist for sites with strong spam blocking software - whatever that's good for.  I got a rash of those last month, had to keep deleting cookies and relogging in, very annoying.  It seems OK for the moment - famous last words, I bet... >:(  Anyways I'm going completely by memory here and aren't a techie by any stretch of the imagination, but I always do the same thing when confronted by computer problems like this - see if someone else has a solution.

Not necessary to do the clear cookies thing - as Rees says, try later and it goes in sweet as a nut. It's the apparent randomness that does my head in.

The 403 errors are odd. It means that the resource exists but that the server is explicitly refusing access to the web browser.

The way that it is happening, its seemingly random nature and the fact that you can go back later with the same cookies set etc and access is given indicates to me that this is a resource issue. ie. that the server is  server is running out of resources and refusing access or running out of resources and having problems with authentication (note though, a 403 error is *not* an authentication error itself).

KLR, don't worry. There is no scam or anything "dodgy" going on here. This is a standard error code given by servers. The message is that put in the server settings, that's all.

Locking me out "403" for using the "in house" search engine today   :(

My initial search was for "contre anglaise" ... but all searches even ''melodeon' get a 403. both "quick" and "advanced" are affected

.. reboot time  :-\

[ed] yup - no problem at all now .. bizarre!  :Ph
