Novice attempt at 'Be Thou My Vision' in G.  Once through with melody only and then with chords second time round.

http://youtu.be/oK7ZxofDSig

A number of firsts for me here - the first posting in a current theme and the first time of trying something with sustained chords and therefore the mind-bending task of row/button choice combined with bellows direction to get the chords right.  Think I need to have a lie down now!

The Holmfirth Anthem - it's treated as a hymn in Yorkshire.

http://youtu.be/jmOSubQmgNo

Abroad for pleasure as I was a-walking
On one summer summer's evening clear
Abroad for pleasure as I was a-walking
On one summer summer's evening clear
There I beheld a most beautiful damsel
Lamenting for her shepherd swain
Lamenting for her shepherd swain.

I've sung it many's the time pikey lad!

This feels like the moment in the TV quiz show "Q.I." when there's one obvious answer but it's either wrong or too obvious, and if the contestants make the fatal error of speaking that answer, the lights flash on and off, the sirens wail and the cameras zoom in on their embarrassment.

Here's “Sent Forth by God's Blessing” played in C on a G/C 1930's Hohner melodeon.

I guess if you're going to play a hymn it would help to have one of these - the setting doesn't hurt either!

This is what inspired my version further up the page. The harmonies are just perfect, and the sound of the instrument is phenomenal. He's also playing in Ab, which is The Best Key.

Hi,
Here's one I did putting one Mike did earlier together with America the Beautiful.
This IMO should have been the national anthem of America. I like that this song speaks to unity / brotherhood and reverence for globe we share.

and the no longer America's national game - hymn

Your version sounds great also! The wetter, more resonant sound of a a Hohner is definitely the way to go for this kind of music. Playing it in a large, resonant space like a church would give it almost the same degree of oomph as a Lõõtspill.

I would love to know the temperament used for tuning that Lootspill.....it's definitely many steps away from Equal Temperament. Lovely sound!

You folks are playing fantastic stuff.

Here's my first one ... struggling with new recording hardware ... not really struggling, but getting used to it. Video is off center. Will do better next time.

"Come Thou Font of Every Blessing" played on my Saltarelle Pastourelle III. My basses, I think, I'm playing like organ bass pedals.

Let All Things Now Living is a hymn written by Katherine K. Davis in the 1920's using the Welsh folk song "The Ash Grove" as the tune. I rushed it some. This is my first contribution to TOTM. I've enjoyed all the earlier submissions.

Nettleton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hI_yyLzK1s&feature=youtu.be

Nettleton is the American folk tune composed by printer John Wyeth (1770-1858) that is used to carry the text "Come thou fount of every blessing." It's a great tune in its own right, and joined to the text - which talks about being born to wander, singing with flaming tongues, and raising your Ebenezer - it's always an enjoyable moment, even on a dull Sunday morning.

Schubert Sanctus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Aic1LtHDK0&feature=youtu.be

The music used to sing this version of the Sanctus is taken from Schubert's Deutsche Mass. It works very well on the melodeon, but, as is often the case, playing it in G puts it about a 3rd or 4th too high for ordinary people to sing. Gotta get a three-row A/D/G someday to solve this problem.

Although come to think of it, it could be played in D on a D/G without sacrificing any chords, since it's only got three chords anyway.

Played on a Dino Baffetti three-voice Oakwood Binci melodeon.
