Just to add a little snippet, the original manuscript had a + sign over the anti-penultimate note. I didn't know until recently that it is the sign for a trill in music of this period.

Damn!  I now have an earworm, and a tune I really want to learn, just as I'm about to go away for a week, with no instruments   :(

Seeing as I was the person who nominated it, I suppose I should pop a recording up!

This is pretty no frills really, I've not spent long enough with the tune to make it especially presentable, or had time to do anything interesting with it.

Until I heard your version, Ollie, I didn't get this tune or like it, and certainly didn't want to learn it.  Now I do get it a bit and like it...but realise it would take a lot of time and effort to learn.  Once again, I'm admiring the clarity and punchiness of your playing. You can even  SEE  all the little peaks appearing on the Soundcloud waveform.  Thanks and Bravo!

I somehow doubt I'll be losing my TOTM virginity to this one...

 (:)

It's tempting me as a tune to get back to TOTM...but it's a bloomin' tough one.

Great posting from Stephan. Inspired.

Cheers

With the lostness in das Man, the nearest, factical potentiality-ofbeing of Da-sein has always already been decided upon – tasks, rules, standards, the urgency and scope of being-in-the-world, concerned and taking care of things. Das-Man has always already taken the apprehension of these possibilities-of-being away from Dasein.

Phew, here we go folks, finally managed to learn this tune; it has been a bit tricky!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acz6Xvm7U7c

The box here is a Hohner Lucia in D/G/Accs (like Squeezy's, but different accidentals) which I've been getting the hang of over the past month or so; learning the stradella in particular. It's getting there as you'll see, but there's still work to do, and I'm only using a small part of what's possible I'm sure. Given that I have every chord in both directions (!) I can pretty much choose whatever treble fingering I like; in this case, I've played it, apart from a small burst at the end of the A music almost exclusively on the D row. I'll get round to using that accidental row once I've truly got the hang of stradella...

Well done to everyone that's had a go at this one, or is currently learning it; keep at it!

Cheers,

Clive

The box sounds great, Clive.  And I love the way that you look and sound so relaxed when playing (:)

(I still sound like my 12 year old self in a piano music festival, trying to get it over with and off the stage as soon as possible ::))

This TOTM was such a tricky one that I was really pleased to be able to get through the tune in the end, albeit somewhat frantically:

So... Just uploaded my first version of "Young Damon's Flight" - here it is:  http://youtu.be/Y6ahz-DwGlM
I love this tune, great choice for a TOTM! Bit tricky, but fun to play! :-)
Please excuse the silly face expression! I think, it could still get a bit more light and subtle, but at least it's getting stable and is already at danceable speed. Will still experiment with it a little bit, and maybe come up with a different version later this month.
Stephan

Stephan, never mind the face, that was brilliant, look forward to the next version.

DaveW

PS should have said the same Brilliant to Ollie - the up-and-coming man, although we couldn't see his face on SoundCloud  (:)

A quick go? Wow. What a fine performance, Sandy. Your version will be my guiding star for learning this tune!

Right then! Here's my go. This has been the hardest tune I've attempted for TOTM hence the fluffs in the penultimate B music.  I've got to like it more and more as I played it through the month though so it's been a good 'un for me.  I tried to stick as closely as possible to Howard's version of the dots - at least in the right hand.  Playing it on the 4th button start 2 row limited the left hand possibilities a bit.

Great performance - congratulations. I'm still racing against time. If only I didn't keep getting distracted by other (easier) tunes. No self discipline you see.

Wonderful energy and articulation, bringing out the meaning of this tune.  .I'm enjoying (from the sidelines)  how us melnetters are rising to the challenge of  tricky tune, and teaching me to appreciate it.

Thank you for the kind comments.

I find this tricky tune quite addictive and really enjoying it now on the old Hohner pressed wood with only one bar to fudge. :Ph

Here's the old Hohner version missing the low note in the last bar of the A music. Apart from that note, I think the tune sits well on this box.

I think it's the first tune I've ever played in B minor.

I was going to let this TOTM pass by, as too hard (B minor :Ph!) and not my style.
But Ollie's and Sandy's beautiful versions (among others) wouldn't let that happen. Just had time to learn the notes this afternoon and do a basic version in time for the end of the month.
It was a lot less scary after transposing the B minor sheet music to E minor,  (using DG-fingering on my CF Loffet) coming out as D minor.

Well done Jack, and everyone else who took a shot at this rather tricky tune! Took me weeks, literally, to get anywhere close on it! Time for a new tune of the month; late additions always welcome as ever - just stick 'em on the end here.

It's only taken me three and a half years to get this far (revisited and abandoned several times). Incidentally, in April 2014 this tune narrowly beat Midnight on the Water as tune of the month.
