Playing the accidentals
« on: May 23, 2014, 08:52:46 AM »

I've just purchased a Giustozzi Organetto from Mr Rees. It is much like me in that it is red and loud. It also has a short row of accidentals which I haven't come across before, but I am assuming that if one can't find a suitable note on the main row it might be found by poking about amongst the accidentals. Is this the case? ??? Guistozzi's delivery is a little delayed due to the Bank Holiday, so I haven't had the opportunity of fiddling with it as yet. Some wise words from people of this parish would be helpful in getting an idea of how it's done and help me live through the waiting period. Have a look at Rees's recent 'More boxes for sale' and try to fight down your envy. I have posted for information on Organetto's in the past but this is a more specific enquiry now that I actually own one..... :||: ???

I may be wrong (I know that this may come as a shock to people) but I believe that an organetto's half row does not provide accidentals but reversals of the main row.

Just looked at Rees' site and the box in question does indeed have accidentals  :|bl

If you could either post, or link to a layout map I can see what it's "about" and perhaps suggest suitable tunes for experiment. There will usually be some logic to it.

The Wesson site has it a "in D "  Rees - where are you?  ::)

The little Giustozzi has arrived from Rees and is red and shiney and vulgar and loud, just as I hoped it would be, and very easy to play. Have'nt used the accidentals yet as my limited repertoire hasn't needed them. I think I'm in love again...... ::)

I am jealous (though I'm no good at all that pulling and pushing, and I wouldn't know what to do with the accidentals either) - how many voices is it?

Here I am ...........

It's a single voice in D.
As Lester said, organetti usually have reversals on the helper row but this one does have accidentals.
I can't remember exactly what they were but it might have been Bb/G#  C/C  Bb/G# upper octave.
Brian will tell us.
