"Cellulite" buttons on Hohner pokerwork
« on: May 30, 2014, 10:54:53 PM »

Following on from previous unpleasantness about trying to tell an eBay seller that their 114 didn't have "Bakelite" buttons, I see there's one on there now (and ending very soon) on which the seller reckons "The buttons appear to be cellulite ..."

Only it's rather a nice early pokerwork that interestingly still has the old-style wooden treble keyboard mechanism with screwed-on buttons, but already has the new-style swivelling catches/feet on the bass end-board and metal bass action with moulded buttons - so just in the middle of the changeover around 1929.

It's here: FANTASTIC VINTAGE WORKING HOHNER ACCORDION MADE IN GERMANY CUTOUT WOOD ACCENT

Edited to correct typo in heading - why'd the have to go and stick the i next to the u, darn it!

That must be due to the cellulite...

Don't people usually pay to get rid of it?  ???

Well, yes, which is why I suspect the price was so low. Luckily, this one was only affected in the bass end, so the new owner should have less work to do.  :o

Well, it's 'in the family' now. It hasn't arrived yet and I don't know what keys it's in but I agree it is from a transitional time at Hohner. I believe it is later than the first picture (stepped keyboard, exposed wooden levers, inline bass buttons) and earlier than the second (stepped keyboard, metal levers, staggered bass buttons).

It was probably produced the same time as these boxes. Curiously these are both in CC#. Notice one has the metal levers but smaller than normal Hohner buttons and the other has the "cellulite" buttons on hidden wooden levers. These both have the same design wooden grill as the recent ebay sale although a different color.

I found one of these what I call "Black & Blond" hohners as a cheap basket case recently. The back and air button pallet were both missing. I had quite a surprise when I opened it up!  It made a nice home for a family of mice. Fortunately they had moved out before it was shipped to me.

My daughter used one of mine as a step-stool once, but a house tops that!
