Here's a new tune. I heard Chris Parkinson play it in a session at Whitby last year, and it's been my ear worm ever since !! It's a Belgian bagpipe tune, title unknown.

It's the first tune I've learned to play in A minor, so please excuse the odd fluff.

It's a cracking tune !!

Followed by an old traditional favourite, Off She Goes.

This is the standard B part, not the unusual one that is sometimes played.

... and couple more.

Boanopstekker. A Dutch dance and tune, turned into an English 48 bar jig. I learnt this tune by osmosis so to speak never having heard it played by a Dutch person until very recently. It's pretty much the same it seems, except they play it in 32 bars, AABC.

Scattery Island. A modern Irish tune taken for a bit of a romp I suppose. I wouldn't play it quite like this for a dance, or if I was in an Irish session. Still, a good tune for a bit of a romp as well  (:)

PS. for those requiring mp3 files (boo hissss  >:E ) for their intractable portable audio players, just replace the .ogg with .mp3 for a "compatible" though lower spec file.

Here's the White Joak, a tune which bears more than a passing resemblance to the Fieldtown morris tune Old Marlborough.

Working through my list of tunes to learn after hearing them at a session on Saturday, managed a half-decent recording of The Plane Tree: https://soundcloud.com/robotmay/the-plane-tree

Here's my contribution to the jigs theme. Both from the Joshua Jackson collection, they have longer B parts than A parts. Why this should be the case is a cause for extensive conjecture on The Session site. I just like them as they are.

Here are two jigs I play for my Northwest Morris ladies - but on concertina; a relative newcomer to melodeon, I'm still not confident enough to play much for them on the accordion.  But these are two jigs that I honestly think work much better on melodeon.

https://soundcloud.com/concertinist/romanwallperfectcuremp3mp3

I believe the tunes are The Roman Wall and The Perfect Cure.  Played on a Dino Baffetti Black Pearl Special D/G.

As a melodeon neophyte, I'd be grateful for any feedback and useful suggestions!

Jim, your playing is very good indeed and I would offer the following as a comment only, certainly not as a criticism, of which I have none.

This is very well played indeed but if you wanted to play in the English style you would have to make it decidedly punchier particularly with the left hand. Emphasise the lumpy 1-2 beat of the jig instead of smoothing it out. Minor point and I hope it doesn't offend!

No offense at all - you're right. I usually play this on concertina for the clog dancers, with a lot more punch; on melodeon, I'm still paying more attention to hitting the right notes than to emphasis.

Useful feedback that I will factor into my next attempt!

This is a bit of a cheat as it's a tune from a CD recorded a good while back now, but it is me playing the box, honest!! I have a bit of spare time this week so I'll try to post something fresh before the weekend.

Players like Tony Hall don't need to follow any style, they make the style!

Since it's not a southern English tune, but is from Northumberland I think your playing style is spot on.  Would fit in perfectly round these parts.

Here's a couple of traditional Australian jigs that are often played for bush dances - Frog Puddles and the Girls of Ivory.
http://youtu.be/m3xdz5mVM4A

Frog Puddles was written for a 1901 pantomime and I was interested to see how the original piano score (available online at http://nla.gov.au/nla.mus-an4829090) was turned into a very danceable jig. It's such a simple tune but is great fun to play. Both tunes really suit a one-row 4-stopper in the 'people's key' of C. Lacking one of those beasties, I had to make do with the C row on my C/F Erica.

I don't know much about the second tune and wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a variant of a tune from the 'old country'. Given half a chance they might even get an airing at a session in England sometime soon...

A version of The Kesh Jig, learnt from Tim Edey's 'Irish Style DG' DVD - I must have watched it too many times as I still hear Tim calling out the chords when I play it (:)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuZ-SxYoaPQ&feature=youtu.be

It seems odd that this doesn't sound like the speed a jig should be for dancing, I don't know if it is because this was a tutoring type speed and he would normally play it a lot faster, but I quite like his slowed down version.  A good excuse for why I haven't mastered the speed needed for Irish sessions too.
