Melodeon Ring Tone
« on: March 21, 2009, 06:51:24 PM »

I recently confessed on another thread to having Willian Kimber playing double Lead Through as my mobile ring tone.

I'd like a change and fancy an appropriate bit of melodeon playing, but I'm not sure what. It needs to be something that is distinctive, and ideally starts loud and gets louder.

My previous ring tones have included Cream - Sunshine of your love, Hendrix - Voodoo Chile.

And it needs to be in my music collection or available for download!

Any ideas,

Andy

Hi Andy
why don't you record yourself on your mobile, my hubby plays his banjo for his handy ring tone, the recording quality isn't great but his calls usually nice comments.

I used to have "William & Nancy" that I recorded myself playing, as Louise suggested.  Since changed my phone and haven't got around to replacing it, but the tune worked quite well and it was distinctive, so much so that I couldn't risk having it enabled if I didn't want people to know I was in the vicinity!  (Trying to think now why that situation might have arisen.  I'm sure it did more than once though :-/  )

I'll admit to have a few ringtones with boxes on them on my phone-

Currently 'Whistling Rufus' - me on anglo concertina

But also-

'Morris off' from the original morris on LP
'Princes Royal' - John Spiers
'Speed the plough' - Simon Care's Box Set

And a few various folk rock type numbers

I had the theme from Captain Pugwash as a ringtone a few years back. A colleague asked me whether it was a pirate copy!

I had the opening strains of the Oysterband's "Blood Wedding" as my ringtone for a long while but switched it for "The Road to Santiago" because it's the only thing I've ever found that I recognise as a ringtone rather than just going 'hey, someone's playing some nice music, oh, hang on, I'm sure that's actual folk music, oh gosh it's my phone (fumble in bag until after voicemail has kicked in) oh bugger'.

Yep! I'm just getting the hang of this polyphony. Actually, my wife prefers my phone's ring-tone as it does eventually stop! Unlike my constant melodeon playing.

Try these Ringtones from Lund university's folk life archives :|||:  I've posted this link before, but I think they have changed their website recently. The page is in both Swedish and English.

Hal-an-Tow or Bells of Rhymney would get you diving into your handbag pretty smartish! I'd have the opening few bars of Milford Haven on mine if I knew how to do it but I'm a bit of a Luddite at times.  :-\

I,ve been thinking about recording the exhaust tones of my 1982 Triumph Bonneville and using that for a change from musical ringtones. :|||: javascript:void(0);

Lovely - is that the three or four stop Bonneville?  I guess that ring tone comes with it's own vibration?

Trevor, it's a one stop actually. It's the one that stops when you press on the brake lever.
