I will attempt to polish this up a bit when I'm back to my usual self, in the meantime kicking things of on behalf of the intermediate/beginner congintent: The Sussex Waltz
Sounds pretty darn good to me, with or without additional polish (:) Hope you have a speedy recovery. N

Gerday All,

Here's my effort: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl7sM0eBQU4

Have now got some simple bass going, and tried a modulation from C to G and back again, like I saw in Martin Ellison's vid.  Except not quite so smooth.

I've recorded a couple of versions in C and F.

The first http://youtu.be/tYET_uKfw4E is on a G/C Gaillard in C in the top octave with the low reed out.

The second is also in the top octave of a C/F Dallape but with the low reed in. (It's still uploading, I'll add the link later). -  here it is

I presume you mean the low note on the treble end out? - Stonkin' nevertheless, what a box!

Yes, both these boxes are three reeds LMM and can have the low reed switched off.
The Gaillard, being in G/C is not "squeaky" even in the top octave on the C row but the Dallape being in C/F is almost as high as a D/G and benefits from having the L reed on for the top octave of the F row.

  the Dallape

I particularly like the Dallape version for the basslines, as well as the sound and general feel.

Yesterday Herr Sommer brought me back the Preciosa I entrusted to him for repair. Here it is, playing joyfully (and loudly!):

I really enjoyed that Sebastian, and what a wonderful rude loud little box that is! Hats off to Herr Sommer! ;D

This tune seemed like a good opportunity to have another go on my recently acquired one row four stop. I've not really got the hang of keeping the RHS still yet (if ever!) so apologies if watching it makes you feel a bit seasick!

Nicely played. Re wobbly treble end might I suggest lengthening your strap a little so the casework rests on your leg rather than the bellows, it should give it a firmer base.

Here's mine.
I didn't actually know the tune, so head to learn it, but what really took the time was after I found a descant harmony part in there, so then I had to learn to play that with the tune...

Delightful stuff! When I said this tune had plenty of scope for the advanced players I don't think I expected descant parts!

Lovely stuff Anahata, a real joy to watch  (even if I can't *quite* work out what your fingers are doing) and I love the harmonies.

This just proves that having 'simple' tunes for ToTM doesn't mean there isn't something extra for the more experienced players.

I couldn't agree more, when you listen to the opposite ends of the spectrum (Martin Ellison and Anahata) and all the fantastic versions in between it makes you realise what can be done with a (relatively) simple tune.... and what a wonderful range of talent we have that contributes to Melnet.
Great stuff. (:) :||:

All of which makes it a shame that ToTM postings seem to be tailing off a bit.  I really enjoy listening to all the different versions from beginners to advanced players.  Come on fellow citizens of melnet-land, can we have a few more ToTM postings please?  :|||: :||:

opposite ends of the spectrum (Martin Ellison and Anahata)

There's an obvious interpretation of that phrase which I hope isn't what you meant, for both Martin's and my sake  ;)

OK, to clarify that comment, I meant that you had both interpreted the tune in such different, and equally brilliant ways.

I couldn't agree more, when you listen to the opposite ends of the spectrum (Martin Ellison and Anahata)

And realise that these two examples are entirely unrelated in every way, then you begin to comprehend the vast capabilities of the simple box we all know and love!
