Anyone seen this odd layout before?
« on: August 28, 2014, 10:20:10 PM »

Here is a current German eBay listing for a Hohner Claude - seemingly a kind of club model with a very strange keyboard layout indeed.

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Hohner-Knopfakkordeon-Claude-/390917079124?pt=Tasteninstrumente&hash=item5b04794054

Does anyone here know what sort of system this instrument was supposed to be?  What kind of layout would make sense in this configuration of buttons?

It's oddly appealing as far as consistency goes. My guess would be that the buttons fit roughly into the correct location for their notes on the keyboard, e.g. if the one nearest the top was Eb/F it'd sorta make sense for it to be there.

I wonder if it was named in honour of Ed Balls' brother Claude?

It would have to be Claudette in our house as my husband (somewhat irrationally) insists all melodeons are female.

Well let him speak for himself matey! And when he comes to Swanage F.F. I'll smack him with my green buttoned Pariselle handbag. 8)

You'll just have to buy it to find out!  I'd guess it's a variant of the smaller club layouts - nothing to base it on though, apart from the 8 bass.

Rob.

P.S.  Look forward to Claude appearing in your stage act.
