Here is my attempt, learnt over the last few weeks with the expert guidance of the multi-talented MelonBox of this parish and trying (and mostly failing) to play along with Ollie's video.  Credit for any good bits must therefore go to Mel and the naff bits are all my own work! (:) N

Ollie, how did 3 teams manage to dance so well together? Was it impromptu or did a lot of practice go into it beforehand ?

Been slow getting something uploaded as I wanted to improve how I played the tune after hearing other versions. After much swearing, here's a rather energetic recording:

Good stuff! I can hear Mel's influence coming through in the timing and rhythm too.

'Bin having some fun with the bass side on this one which is most of the reason why I keep screwing it up, I think (still haven't gotten beyond oom-pahing yet).

http://youtu.be/wtqYyAVnf7E

I didn't bother with the C part as I was having trouble making sense of playing it.  I know how it should work when there are a load of morris dancers in front of you dancing to it, I just could not seem to make it sound right.

The odd bit at the end is me trying to end gracefully and totally screwing it up.  There were several failed attempts which followed, and then the battery in the camera died, so this is about the only one where I got all the way through.

Here's mine, the Liliput gets an outing so it's in Eb. Goodness knows what I was thinking of when I attempted the slows.

Helena's gentle admonition a few months back that the future of ToTM depends, like its past, on our willingness to play an active role resonated quite strongly with me. Four years ago as I was muddling along in a perfectly melodeon-free environment trying to teach myself how to produce some tunes, along came ToTM, and everything changed. Not only did it give me a nicely paced course of study, but it also provided examples from accomplished players that enabled me to hear accepted (and contested!) performance traditions of an unfamiliar musical literature. And just as importantly, I was able to see other learners at all stages of achievement and share in the ecstasies and agonies that are part and parcel of this journey.

I continue to profit immeasurably from this close contact with faraway colleagues, and I conscientiously make an attempt to prepare the selection every month.  Recently, however, the trouble of making and submitting a video seems to outweigh the benefits to be had from from publishing a less than exemplary performance, so that more often than not, my efforts go undocumented. Thanks to Helena for reminding me that putting can be as important as taking. I'll try to do better.

So here is yet another undistinguished but earnest shot at the ToTM...long may it live!!

I really enjoyed that! In fact I have just spent a very enjoyable hour listening to the many tunes on your You Tube Channel and I have subscribed to it so that I don't miss any in the future. I have been playing for half as many years as you and I will learn a lot from your lovely, crisp, rhythmical playing. Thank you for posting this!

End of the month folks - time for a new tune. Late submissions as ever, just stick 'em on the end here.

So I could pretend to have simply forgotten that thirty days hath September and all that but the plain truth is that this is a tune I learnt to stumble through rather too early in my playing days and so fully intended to 'do something with' for ToTM.  Too many other pretty tunes drifted by during September and I just didn't get round to it.

Consequently this is not where I wanted to be with the tune, William and Nancy*

Ever belated-er than what 'er was - a raggedy rendition on a Castagnari Giordy.

Using an iPad with the "selfie" camera works, but it's a disaster if you end up watching yourself.

A post from the distant future, when October 2019's Theme of the Month was "Play an Old Tune of the Month!" Just leaving it here as well for posterity's sake.
