I was a boy seaman at HMS St Vincent,1952/53. Did'nt think much of Gosport......

Must be something in the blood for old tars to take up the melodeon. But HMS Vincent! luxury compared to TS Foudroyant which was the fifties equivalent to an ASBO. I think the ship has ended up in Hartlepool, but back to her former name of HMS Trincomalee the oldest british sailing frigate still floating.

If there is anybody up there where they hung the monkey, go and play a tune on board for me. I was not musical at all in those days but I sure we used to sing the Drunken sailor as we used to holy stone the deck.

H.M.S. Vincent? You were lucky. Ever tried H.M.S. Ganges  in Shotley Gate Suffolk.?
That put me off the Navy for good. AND I am the first male of our family in 200 years not to join up.
Do I feel thread drift hereabouts?  >:E
PS. Ganges was so good it was closed down, for health and safety I beleive.  ;D

Well this has been an interesting thread, and it's great to see how widespread we are.
As I said before, it would be nice if you added a location/country, to your profile, as well.

"I think the ship has ended up in Hartlepool, but back to her former name of HMS Trincomalee the oldest british sailing frigate still floating".
I am about 12 miles away from Hartlepool. (HMS Trincomalee has been very well restored to its original condition, on display as part of the Hartlepool Historic Quay museum, well worth a look it you get lost and end up on Teesside by accident  ;D).

I played for a private party below decks on the Trincomalee, early last year. Pie and pea supper, real ale ... great sound, great crowd ... but too low for dancing.

just done a quick check, only one of the contributors to this page doesn't have their town or area on profile. There is surely much sample bias if we want to apply that statistic to melnet in general though  ;)

We must always assume, that contributors to Melnet, actually know where they are, of course.

John - in my experience, never assume  ;D
I often don't know where on earth I am, then discover I'm on the 'B' music when I thought I was on the 'A' !!

....and of course, to quote the famous Eccles
" Everybody's gotta be somewhere....."

I'm not all that sure Nick is 'on form', speaking in a medical sense. Wishing an accelerated convalescence ...
