Sudden attack of useless playing - comparatively speaking
« on: April 04, 2009, 10:27:37 AM »

I was seated at the organ the other day, actually I was seated with my accordion on my lap the other day and started to practice, I was unable to get the rhythm right, I kept hitting the wrong buttons, the harder I concentrated the worse it got So. I stopped and tried to play a tune I have played for years, same result.
I then wondered if this was a common phenomenon amongst fellow squeezers and, if it is, how people have managed to overcome it. I suspect that part of the problem arises because I am converting my brain and fingers from D/G to BCC#.

Yeah, I get that from time to time. Usually just as I'm standing in front of six men with hankies/sticks... but I wouldn't worry about it particularly. When it does happen just put your box down and do something else for a bit.

Yup, it happens! (All instruments.) I think you already tried Plan A, go back to basics and try to push through it. Sometimes that doesn't work, time to go and do something else for a bit.

Theory - ??? Possibly related to trying to progress in steps that are too large. Brain says "too much!" ????

It always passes, (until next time.)  ;D

Going by experience, I suggest that you don't try and  play the accordion after drinking more than twenty pints of beer in a day :-)

Not so, I'm one as well. Although I wouldn't say I'm in captivity ;)

My other melodeon's a fiddle, but one of my Hohners has six strings! I also play a very red Hawkins Bazaar in C and a generic Klingenthaler spoon bass in F.!! My other pets (played) are gobirons - Hohner Marine Band in C, Hohner Tremolo in D and a Chinese Thingy Tremolo in G.

What's teetotal?

It means that at the end of a long boozy session I am usually the best player left in the room but no one cares.  ;D

I expect the boozers are equally sure that *they're* still the best :-)

It's when I start hitting the buttons in the right order that I start to worry!

A non-drinking morris side with non-drinking musicians?  That's a thought to ponder with wonder. ;D

Windsor used to have a "no drinking on tour" rule (in case it spoiled the dancing)...

Also a "no bitching about other teams" rule. Oh what fun those tours must have been ;-)

Is there any record of these options ever being taken up?  :||:

Oh yes -- they used to take these things *very* seriously...
