Looking for EASY tunes on a One row
« on: September 30, 2014, 03:09:00 AM »

Just got a slick new one row supposedly in "A."  Any suggestions for easy and easy to recognize (especially in the US) tunes?

Even more helpful would be links to videos and better yet numbered (sorry) dots....

http://lesters-tune-a-day.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/tune-72-donkey-riding.html

It's being played on a two row there but that's a good easy tune on a one row. (you'd have to transpose it up a step for playing in A)

If you use ABC here's the ABC for it in A

X:120
T:Donkey Riding

Maggy's Foot would be good too. Simple tune and a whole set of equally easy variations.

My latest blog offering is a good, easy, ear worm of a one row tune, see the link in my blog thread ( would put it here but it's too hard on a phone sat drinking coffee after a 20 mile bike ride). Called Wind the Bobbin Up.

I've just thought of a tune Frank.
"My Wallet's too small for my hobby, my wallet's too small don't you see.
My wallet's too small for my hobby, so bring back the drinking for me"
Sung to the tune of "my Bonny lies over the ocean"

Has anyone heard of the song. “ Broken Alarm-clock Blues” ? It starts   “I woke up this Afternoon”

Sea chanties and American Civil War era songs work well.

Just to start: For sea shanties try Maid of Amsterdam, Golden Vanity or The Bigler's Crew; for Am. Civil War songs try The Battle Hymn of the Republic or The Battle Cry of Freedom. (Add The Bonny Blue Flag if there's a Confederate sympathizer in the house, and if there's one anywhere within earshot DO NOT play Marching Through Georgia!)

Hope this is of some use to you. Links to follow if I have time today.
