Here's a version which you might not have spotted on YouTube, by Tony Hall. Hard to find because the title of the video doesn't mention Princess Royal ;)

And his dress sense!

Are we ready for a "playing in pyjamas" theme of the month?

Maybe, Theo, it's time to make a calendar!? Then we would really find out why some people play a Lilly and others need a full size 120 bass CBA hahahaha!!!  ;D :|bl

A very basic and frankly trite version on my one row,but I could play this tune all day and sometimes do:

Here we go, Princess Royal. I like this tune, really like this tune, in pretty much all of its forms... but this one... my favourite

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0MNDQ7JwHA

What tradition is that? No idea! It's a minorised one, with the A music similar to the Bampton one Howard just posted. It's probably closest to the version Chris Wood used to play at his solo concerts (before he became a songwriter!), but has mutated from even that. Played on the Hohner Preciosa in Bb/Eb. so it's in F minor here; to play it like this, it really helps to have semi-unisonoric basses to get those drones and chord combinations going.

For comparison, here's the same tune played 5 years ago when this first came up as TOTM, same basic idea but on a Castagnari Mory in D/G, so it's in A minor here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpTjLC1mIG4

Quite a few more accidentals in there that I seem to have forgotten about in the intervening years...

Cheers,

Clive

Here's a version I remember playing for Hammermith Morris dancing a twelve man Adderbury Princess Royal quite a few years ago.
I had to look up the tune for some of the details, as I haven't played it for a while.

After listening to 'filbertthedilbert' playing on his one row i decided to get my Castagnari Max out of the box (which is a rare sight) and do a quick 2 times through in 'C'

Here's a bog standard version I played some time ago.  D/G Black Pearl 3.  Regret I don't have time for learning new tunes or for TsOTM these days, so can only post stuff I already know, which sort of defeats the purpose to an extent..

I've enjoyed every one of these. Here's my own fairly standard rendition http://youtu.be/MJphVfesgdE

This is a companion piece to my entry for the Show Us Yer Melodeons! Theme http://youtu.be/BtaX-ky7EZU
for which I co-incidentally chose the Princess Royal. This was the first tune I'd learnt where I felt I'd got the left and right side going in some sort of sync, and it's still  the safe one I pull out when called to "play a quick tune" in public.  The Baffetti was unable to make last month's show due to being back at the shop for repair so now gets its spot in the limelight.

I really need to learn one of the minor versions...

Any excuse to play this smashing tune. Played on an old - and slightly battered - Hohner Pokerwork, originally in C/C# but re-reeded and overhauled by Martyn White: http://youtu.be/yBEGqeh3Pmo

Nimbly done Pete. And not just any Erika D/G but one with extra basses! Nice sound..look forward to hearing more of those basses.

A duet for a change. Me and my girlfriend Julia out in the garden on a rather windy Autumn day, complete with falling leaves and wind noises from the trees. Princess Royal is paired with Sussex Cotillion.

Lovely, I enjoyed that and the setting in the landscape. How lucky you are to have a partner to share your music with! I look forward to more from you both, Guy.

Figured I should finally get around to uploading a recording for this month. Here's a medlified major and minor version that's definitely not for dancing to (unless you're feeling especially spritely):

Edit: Oh and if you hear any slightly odd tinny distortion it's because I'm a bit of a thicky and sat here playing the treble side almost directly into a fan :|bl

I have just spent a very happy couple of hours trawling through You Tube and I came across this wonderful player. He posted this, his version of Princess Royal, on melodeon.net years ago when it was Tune of the Month the first time round. It seems he hasn't posted videos to You Tube or melodeon.net for a long time, which is such a shame. I think he is a fantastic player and plays very different versions of many tunes as I know them. Have a look.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHzkF4KqqTI

Here's my effort, played dead straight complete with a 'fluff' at the end, which I hope you'll forgive!

Sometimes 'dead straight" + Hohner is best! Nice job David!  (:)
